Hello, great site.
I have a maine coon cat about 8 years old that keeps getting reoccuring puffy lips in the front and in the back right of his mouth. I've tried the following with no luck:
1. Changed bowls, plastic, glass and now stainless steel.
2. Had depo shots from vet, seemed to have worked for a while however since I moved into newer townhome it keeps occurring more frequently.
3. prednisone about 10 mg each day and gave him this daily for a couple weeks, took care of the problem so I quit giving it to him. Again the problem reoccurs so I start to give it to him again and recently does seem like the front part of the lip has gone down however the back part which is pink and puffy and hard has not goe down. I took him to a dermatoligist this morning and spent 120.00 just for the consultation, they gave him a prescription of Dexamethsome 1.5 mg which seems to be a prescription that I get at a regular drug store, can't wait to see the cost of this!
4. I've also wanted to note that I've tried different cat foods over the years and seems like this didnt matter but then again he seems to be more content with his current Iams adult regular chicken flavored. I've read that cats can be allergic to corn, I'll have to check to see if corn exists. The vet also had him on some expensive hydro allergic cat food that I got at the vet but he didnt seem to like that.
Anyway, not sure if anyone can give me any advice but I sure would like to hear if anyone else has experienced these symptoms with their cat?
