I was skimming thru the current Cat Fancy magazine at Petsmart's checkout yesterday and they had an article on the oldest cats. The record breaker was 37 years, and there was one cat featured that is currently 36. All of the cats in the article were over 25.Originally Posted by sharky

Probably not the same article that the OP posted about, but was an interesting quick read. Sorry, didn't buy it so can't look anything up for you.
For my 23 year old (Patches), she was on normal meow mix. She did have UTIs a lot and it turned into CRF but that was not until the last couple years of her life. She had to be put to sleep because of how bad her health got and she was in a lot of pain which could not be helped. I really don't know why she did so well except that it maybe was genetics??? It was 9 years ago that she died. It really is strange that here with the four cats I have had since her I have on special diet foods and much better medical care and yet I lose one at age 17 and just now lost another at not yet 2!!!! It drives me insane. I wish I knew if it was the change in how food is made or what. Back 9 years ago you sure did not hear problems of so much recalled pet food and such. Ok, I think I need to get off my soap boxOriginally Posted by pearce1974
For those who've had pets 18plus years, were they on regular store bought meow mix or exclusive diet. Any UTI problems? I have never seen so many cases of poor health in this era, when in years past, cats lived so long...what gives?
