I was turned down for SSI. I tried. The Social Sexurity Administration is not helpful at all. It’s just another government controlled bureaucracy. Anything having to do with the government is more frustrating than helpful. I’ve tried EVERYTHING! It’s not ao easy to get. Some people have to get lawyers and it takes years. Others go through all of that and still can’t get it. I’ve looked into physical businesses. I had been looking at franchises for a year. I don’t know about anything that would help me open a business myself. Plus, SBA won’t give loans for a non-franchise business unless you have experience in the area you’re buisness is in. As far as loans for minority groups, you meed an income to qualify. Regardless of the lender, they still want to know that they’ll be repaid.
My brother has some knowledge of the food business but I’ve begged him for years to help me to do something and he won’t. In fact, there is a business we could start with very little money but I can’t do it without his knowledge. He is well aware of my situaion but he just doesn’t care. I wrote a post about him and I’ve decided it’s really healthier for me to just end that one-way relationship. I also have a wealthy cousin, who has her own business. I asked her for help and she just ignored me
Anyway, I can’t afford most of the franchises and I’ve looked at all kinds in all price ranges. The ones I can afford are a waste of money. Others require physical work that I cannot always perform. Some require multiple units because they’re really intended as secondary not primary incomess. I worked with several franchise consultants and there’s nothing.
Etsy-I don’t know how to do or make anything. Itried making and selling t shirts and I wasted about $1000 and didn’t sell one. I don’t know anybody, so it’s not like I’m going to sell anything by word of mouth or through facebook. Plus, without being able to print your own shirts, it can become quite expensive.
Medical transcription-there are tons of people doing this. I have no experience and it’s not easy to get accounts. I have no ins with doctors. Most of the practices here are controlled by hospitals, so that makes it even more difficult. The family doctor that you’ve known all your life doesn’t ezist anymore. Doctors don’t want to treat people anymore, let alone help anybody get started in a business.
I started having medical issues at a very young age but prior to that sports were my thing. I really never got a chance to do anyhting else.
I'm not "liking" your post because I like the content. I'm liking your post because this ridiculous situation with family members is familiar.
If they are ignoring you and do not wish to help...well, I can only speak for myself, but I cut that crap out of my life with pruning shearers of made of chainsaw fire and never looked back.
I get the whole "family is important" and "blood is thicker than water" and all that crap. I have family I'd willingly die for. But some family aren't really family at all. Just blood relation.
If they're treating you like this, I understand that feeling. They won't help you. They offer no support and act like you're a second class member of the "fam" when you're trying your damndest to get your life in order.

I agree on the family doctor thing. The old time family doctor has been replaced by the corp M.D. A few of them still do care but have to follow protocol to keep their jobs and licenses leaving both parties in jeopardy.

I wish I had an answer for you, I really do.
We got your back no matter what.
Maybe someone will come along with some actual advice, but I am offering all my support, and then some because I've been in your situation and it's just plain sucks.

So you missed your appeal date. So what? You simply open a new case. They still use the same medical records that they already have. Yeah, you could add new medical records to it, but they do use the old one.

Check your insurance to verify that you need a referral. I've changed insurances a lot and the last few years I haven't needed a referral to see a specialist.

When I was helping my daughter with the paperwork recently all that was needed was HIPAA forms signed to get medical records. Doctors weren't required to fill out SSA specific forms, just provide the existing medical records.

And if it takes 6 months...so what? If you don't do it you will be right where you're at without any chance of an appeal working. If you do do it, you will have a very good chance of a judge overturning the denial and a check for the back pay arriving. What do you have to lose?

I definitely need referrals. The medical records, I think were not helpful enough in the first place and I did have to send forms to the doctors.
Doctors in this area act like the momey is coming out of their own pockets. They don’t like to help people get SSI. I switched doctors because my own primary wouldn’t help me with anything.

Other than wishing you good luck on your virtual business idea, I'm not really sure what to say. I guess you just needed to vent a little about how frustrating your situation is? If so, I definitely can offer a hug and some reassurance. I'm just more of a fixer than a listener.

I think all states have a Department of Rehabilitative Services, which does job training and job placement for disabled people.
I have yet to find a job coach in Houston. In the past I used Easter Seals which is gone now. I think they've moved to Dallas.Hopefully the Texas Rehab Commition can help me. I have had medical issues since I was 7. I am very upset with my job in sales but I don't know what else to do.College is too difficult for me so no degree. I am lucky that I have my parents to support me.
