Okay, after being totally confused and overwhelmed when it comes to what food is best for my Obese 14 year old cat, I decided to take the Innova / EVO plunge.....My cat is healthy otherwise, just obese, and of course he has no energy and doesn't play, which stands to reason(just like people)...Now, after spending hours and hours online reading reviews and all, I'm finding that Innova/EVO cat food is getting the best reviews and results...Perhaps 1 out of 20 people said their cat didn't like it, but overall it's been very positive...I wanted to try Feline's Pride, but that is WAY out of my price range. EVO is still pricey, but not near as pricey as ordering Feline's Pride(about $90.00 a onth), soooo I decided to go to the next best thing to raw food, which is EVO(about $40.00 a month)..... Now, just like humans, I'm sure there are cats that will turn up their nose to it, no matter how many other cats like it, but that's expected.. I'm going to slowwwly introduce him to it..Fortunately, my cat is NOT a fussy eater. He never really has been, so I should be fine....The good news is that I've found several natural health pet stores in my area that carry EVO....
I'm excited to get him on this high protein diet, which suppose to help obese cats and also help if a cat gets diabetes. Right now I'm feeding him 1/2 cup of Eukanaba and 1/3rd of a tray of Whiskas soft food(yuck)...From what I've been reading and what a vet told me, he's obese because of the dry food, due to the high carbs/calories, but I also found out that whiskas is the bottom of the barrel in soft cat food, so hopefully in about 2 months, I'll have him completely weaned off that food and completely on EVO...The Vet wanted to put him on science diet of course, becuase that's what they sell at their office(it's all about the money)....Hopefully over the course of the next 6 months, I'll start to notice him losing weight....
.P.S.. I'm eventually going to an all wet diet, but since he's been eating dry food since he was a kitten, I may pick up a bag of the dry EVO cat food as well, and slowly wean him off of it, although, I'm reading that since dry food dehydrates cats, you should eventually put him on an all wet diet, and my cat does drink a lot of water, even though he's not diabetic...
