My wife and I currently have two cats, a four year old male, Nyla (we thought he was a female when he was a kitten...oops), and Phoenix, a two year old female. We were wanting to adopt a new kitten. Both cats are neutered/spayed. Any suggestions on what gender we should get? Any other suggestions?

Since you already have one of each gender, I guess you should try to match the personalities of your two existing cats as well as possible.  If they are good buddies, this may disrupt the balance.  If they are independent for the most part, then try to match the disposition of the one who would most enjoy a playmate (usually the males enjoy playmates more but not always.)  Adopt from a rescue group -- you may want to get an older kitten, like 4-6 months, rather than a needy baby that will drive the big cats crazy by turning them into substitute parents.
