Hello everyone,
Looking for information in google to help our little one, I found this wonderful feline site. I have been reading for months and because of my little English I never dared to register .... But I can not anymore and I need to ask for help, I do not understand what is happening with our kitten. For a year now, everything has collapsed and we are not able to see our little good at all.

Milus is our little kitten of 18 years. He has always been in good health.
Four years ago she was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis, stage 1 renal failure and severe osteoarthritis of the hind legs. Everything was under control for 3 years. Metacam helped his osteoarthritis a lot, his kidneys were good and pancreatitis was asymptomatic. Since then his food became exclusively wet. Hills m / d, Hills metabolic, Hills z / d, v / d ....
In January of this year, 2018, she was diagnosed by IBD endoscopy.

Milus had almost no vomiting. Once every two months or when she ate very hard or in the mornings on an empty stomach .... But since February and when ibd was confirmed, the vomiting happens more often ... She has never had diarrhea. His problem is vomiting.

She until then has been eating for 4 years until February of this year different canned varieties of hill's prescription diet. We investigated and found that they have ingredients like cereals, soy ... and we thought that was not right.

We switched to a premium quality diet, only one protein meat, no cereals, no fillings. It simply has 1,500 taurine additives.

From February to August their numbers in the analytics improved in terms of IBD. His veterinarian, a specialist in cats, indicated that he was stable and that we continue with his current diet due to its low carbohydrate content. But in spite of everything she has not been the same kitten ever since.

His kidney values have gotten a little worse and he is on IRIS 2. The veterinarian prescribed pills to lower phosphorus. We can not take renal diet because it is high in carbohydrates and that could reactivate diabetes (my kitten is diabetic in remission for 3 years).

I do not trust if this food, Terra Faelis, has everything necessary for a cat with its condition to be well fed. It is high in protein and 0 carbohydrates. It is considered the best canned food in terms of quality of ingredients, but Milus is not the same after all this. He lacks energy, he does not play ... his vomiting never disappears. In two weeks it does not vomit and when you think "ohh it's solved", it vomits again.

We thought if metacam was the culprit of the vomiting and the veterinarian withdrew it. We switched to tramadol, but she was not well in tramadol. Only one dose in a day made her strange and very thirsty.
Without metacam and with the chondroprotective that we were giving since August, Yumove for cats was going
Even his vomiting stopped. For 3 weeks we were happy and we thought that metacam had been the culprit ....
Unfortunately everything fell again. His vomiting returned, he is with cerenia again. She bore her food and for 3 days we tried different ones without her showing any interest ... We took her to the emergency room and the vet put her fluids for a couple of days and buprex for 3 weeks for the pain.
In a few days it improved but since yesterday it has returned to the same.
Now he does not want the Yumove supplement for his osteoarthritis, we tried krill capsules and he got tired of them too ....
If he eats rabbit now, then he hates it and we have to change chicken, then he will hate that too and we give him m / d of hill's. He eats something but afterwards he tells you that he does not want more ...

We are desperate looking for a solution. I read Tanya's website, IBD kitties, I search in google why all this can happen ?, how we have to do to return to our little one as before, just as it does just one year ago. Only one year and so many changes?

What is causing this? IBD, pancreatitis, renal failure? His arthritis worsened, his mood also ...
I do not think about her age, she is still our little one, the one that makes our home and our lives happy. She is everything for me and my husband.
I am a very shy person but this situation has ripped me to write here and seek your help. I do not know where to go or what to do anymore, I feel lost ....

I am very sorry if my entry is too long and if my English is not quite correct.

Hi! Your English is good, not to worry and your post is not too long at all :redheartpump:

Perhaps @LTS3 or others may have thoughts on this, although you mentioned you've looked at the ibd kitties site.

I'm sending you all my love and prayers, and hugs! :grouphug2:

Although we hate to think of our babie's ages, so much of what is happening is made worse by an aging body. That your baby has reached the age of 18 is a remarkable testament to your loving care of her. You are doing all you can, willing to try new things, and discard those that no longer work. It may be all that you can do, although our members have wide experiences, and may have other suggestions. I pray that this is so. But...no matter what, YOU ARE NOT ALONE ANYMORE! You are one of ours now, and we are with you.

And your English is just fine. My only confusion with is was using "him" AND "her." That's very common to those whose English is a second or third language. Is your cat a girl? What is her/his name? And no, your post was not too long. You say what you need to say, and don't worry about that for one minute.

I think your cat must be lovely, and google translator did a very nice job, indeed, of telling me what you said! Her name is very pretty.

I am going to light a candle for her health.

Feel free to write in Spanish if you need to, and I, for one, will go to google and translate it. If anything is not clear, I will ask you to explain.

Again many thanks Mamanyt1953!
She is really lovely and very pretty! ... all cats are charming, beautiful and special!

I also pray every day so that her health improves, I would change for her right now, I would like to have everything she has in exchange for seeing her full of good health. That would be enough to be happy!

I will try to express myself in English, in this way I will surely learn more ... but thanks for the opportunity it offers me to write in Spanish and to take the trouble to use you the google translator!

I admire you, you are wonderful people!

I believe any or all of the three combined can be causing the vomiting. I'm very sorry you're going through all this, though it's not surprising at his age.

If the vet has approved a single-protein, no-cereal diet, perhaps you could tempt your cat with another canned food? Catz Finefood Purrrr is a complete food that's available from Zooplus.

The veterinarian accepts a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates. Kidney diets would not be good for her because they are too high in carbohydrates and that could make diabetes come back. He also prescribed phosphorus binders to add to his food.

I have Catzfinefood at home. In January when she refused to eat her usual food (Hills prescription diet) we tried countless canned brands that she would eat one day, but the next, that food was rejected.
In the end the one that won was Terra Faelis passed by the blender to get a mush ... Now I do not know what happens with this food that does not like it either. She is hungry and you see that she wants to eat. You open the can, you make it porridge and eat. After a while you give it back, sniff it and you do not want to! ...
I do not know the phosphorus level of Catzfinefood, I always look below 1 and close to 0.5%. I'll check the ingredients. Although I'll try to see if she eats it anyway, because the important thing is that she eats.
Thank you very much Jcat!

I've had three kidney cats, but none of them had any of the other issues your little girl has, AND, none of mine ever lived past the age of 16, so you're doing a fantastic job with Milus :worship:

One thing that happened with all three of mine is the loss of appetite. And one day they might love a food, then the next they would sniff it and walk away, just as your describe. But if I gave it to them again a few days later, sometimes they would love it again, so don't give up on trying to feed it to them again. And since you have phosphorus binders, you probably don't need to worry so much about only using food that is under 1% phosphorus. Sometimes we fed food that was way over that amount, and other times it was under, so our Vet said not to worry, it would all even out, and we did NOT use phosphorus binders.

One thing we did do was feed several ( 7 - 9) small meals throughout the day and night, including in the middle of the night. We found our girl (also a tri-color) did much better eating that way. Each meal might only be a tablespoon of wet food, with close to a tablespoon of filtered water mixed in, and for the middle of the night meals, I would actually put two bowls of her food in the freezer and take them out at bedtime. I would set one out on a towel on my nightstand, and set the other on an icepak on my nightstand. Both bowls would be in ziploc bags. Since the amount in them was so small, the first one would thaw in just a couple of hours, and our girl our wake me up just around the time it was thawed. All I had to do was take the bowl out of the bag and set it on the bed for her to eat it. Then I would take the other bowl off the icepak and let it start to thaw. A couple hours later she would be back for more and it would be ready! It was easy for me to feed her and barely wake up. Even the other cats cooperated, as I kept another baggie of treats under my pillow and they knew if they were good and didn't pester her while she ate, they would all get treats afterwards!

BTW, are you giving Milus Pepcid A/C (AKA Famotidine). Most kidney cats have issues with to much stomach acid, particularly if they aren't eating, and this usually causes vomiting of a frothy type "stuff", usually early in the morning. This is one of the reasons why I started the middle of the night feedings. It stopped the early morning throw-ups for the most part.

As far as the krill oil for the arthritis, have you tried giving it as a pill rather than putting it on her food. My cats don't like the taste of it, but if it's pilled, they don't have much choice. On the other hand, if you find an injection that works, I'd go with that. If it's bad, I don't really know that the Krill Oil would do much good. Did the YuMove help. If so, you might look into Dasuquin or Dasuquin Advanced for cats.

As far as the Terra Faelis goes, it does appear to be a completely nutritious cat food, so I'm wondering if when she started vomiting after two weeks, perhaps you were feeding a different variety of it? Maybe chicken vs rabbit, or something like that? If so, that could be the issue...an intolerance to a specific protein.
