I don't think it's an emergency but I'm anxious anyway

Well, I mentioned on another thread that Penelope has had runny eyes and has been a bit sneezy of late but so have I. I assumed it was just allergies as well as her asthma (for which she receives inhaled meds).

But, I was told by other TCS members I should see a vet ASAP because she might have a URI. Well, I'm going to have to go to Penelope's vet specialist to get diagnostics on this because I don't trust her regular vet to be able to distinguish between a URI and allergies/ asthma. My regular vet is good but my vet specialist is a genius and, frankly, I wish I could take both my cats to her but the specialists won't do this because they're so overbooked anyways.

So, I'm really upset now because maybe Penelope's asthma meds have been masking a URI? I won't be able to get an appointment with her vet specialist until next week. (I don't think this constitutes enough of an emergency to push my way into an afternoon appointment tomorrow and they are closed on the weekends). Anyway, is it possible for a 4 year old cat to die suddenly of a URI? She's eating well and playing with me even if she's been sneezy lately. Would someone either please provide some reassuring words or let me know if I really need to push for an emergency appointment?

Thanks so much.

It sounds as if Penelope may have a URI, and this definitely requires treatment. This could also be a simple case of allergies, but then it's always possible they could aggravate her asthma. If she's acting well, though, still eating and drinking, going potty and playing like her usual self, I wouldn't think this would require a trip to the emergency vet at this time. Perhaps you could phone your Vet to tell him your concerns and ask for his feedback? If Penelope was to become lethargic, not eating, extremely congested, labored breathing, any of these would require immediate emergency attention. Most all, you know Penelope better than anyone, so remember to use your own intuitions as to whether or not she needs immediate care or if this can wait until next week.

Feel better soon, Penelope!

Thanks, Stephanie, and KatKisses!

I've set up an appointment with Penelope's vet specialist for Monday.
