Hi all,

The neighbours have just made us aware that they are getting a little annoyed at the fact that one of our cats (Wispa) keeps on using their car as a platform to jump down to the ground.

So Wispa gets onto our shed roof, then across to the trellis fence, goes through it, and then jump onto the car roof then down onto the ground. What’s worse is that it’s a soft top roof. He’s leaving footprints on the car and we are worried he may damage the roof from him jumping on it or by his claws poking holes in it.

We don’t really want to be forking out for any damage caused by him, and there is no option for the car to be moved as it’s their only parking space.

Any tips on how to stop Wispa from doing this? Any cat repellents that won’t damage the car? If we put any repellent on the fence, do you think that would help?

Any success stories/tips would be welcome!

Thanks :)

Can you offer to purchase one of those free standing carport things or go 50-50 on it with them? I think they are under $200 for one. Just make sure it is a sturdy one and anchored to the ground. The other option would be to purchase a car cover for your neighbor and it is up to him to actually use it. Either way, if you do buy him something, have them sign something so you aren't responsible for long term maintenance of the car port/cover, damages from/to the car port/cover itself (like they run into a pole or it breaks down the line or neighbor puts it on wrong and scratches the car) and that as of the time of the agreement your cat hadn't caused any damage to their vehicle and you aren't responsible for damage since you've provided them protection for their car.

The only other way would be to trim whatever route she uses to get up on the roof so its a non-issue. I wouldn't feel comfortable spraying something on the car and any long term attachments will damage the car just as much as the cat. You could, maybe, put some of those bird spikes along the length of your roof that the cat jumps from so your cat can't jump from that area onto his car. But I wouldn't do that one if the spikes attachment damages the roof because that is a whole other more expensive issue if your roof is now at risk for leaking.
