There's now 5 alive kittens, but the newest one is tiny compared to the rest. She just had afterbirth stuff and ate it :paranoid:Do you think she's done after the afterbirth? Or could there be more kittens?

How did it go overnight? Did she have more? Sometimes the last kitten comes a bit later than most of them.

They're very precious! :lovecat:

Are all kittens latching and nursing well?

How is the tiny one doing? If it needs supplementing you’ll need kitten formula.

I have no idea how to do that but we'll be taking them to the vet ASAP

Do they need to see the vet? If everyone is doing fine, it can wait until the kittens are 8 weeks old.

Oh I heard they should see a vet when they are born. My mom will be happy to hear we don't have to take them

You can get a kitchen scale for $12-$15 at Walmart. You put a bowl on it and zero it out. Then you can put a kitten in the bowl to weigh it.

If the kittens are healthy and gaining weight, they don't need to go to the vet immediately. Only if one isn't growing properly or eating either mother's milk or formula.

I've heard from family that you can touch the kittens as long as Mama cat is ok with it. She seems fine with me touching them with one finger but she does sit beside/over them when I do. I'm assuming that means I shouldn't pet them.

What sweet little kitties! :redheartpump:

I'd let momma cat take care of them most of the time, but weighing each kitten every 12 hours is recommended. That way you'll know that they are all getting enough milk.

Yes I only touched a kitten once and Mama is taking good care of them. We'll try to get a scale

New moms are very protective of their babies, especially the first 3 weeks or so. She’ll ease up when they begin to explore outside the nest.

This "kitten lady" has fostered hundreds of shelter kitten litters. In this video, she shows how she weighs them:

I just realized Mama wasn't trying to protect the kittens, she was trying to rub her head on my hand when I pet the kittens  (she has always rubbed her head on hands like that, so I'm just assuming, but if you pet her and the kittens at the same time she doesn't mind) Their heads look a tiny bit bigger today, and all the stomachs are round. Kitten #1 is a little hog :lol2:. He/she pushes the other kittens and always eats. But we make sure the other kittens eat too. Dog is very hungry, should she still be on the unlimited food diet?

I am starting a new thread for kitten questions, I'll try to link it here :hellocomputer:

Put all your kitten questions here in this same thread please.

Yes, your mama cat still needs unlimited food while she is nursing!
