I posted a question last week about some lumps I found on my cat's (Hemmy) stomach. This is follow up. The meds we tried weren't working like we'd hoped so we saw the vet again on Monday rather than waiting till Wednesday as planned. She determined that it's most likely cancerous and wanted to do surgery ASAP. He goes tomorrow to have the lumps removed. She feels fairly positive that the places are benign and were triggered due to some medication he had taken earlier in the year for an unrelated issue. Like most people might, I wish he had never had the meds but no one was psychic and could have predicted this and for that matter there's no guarantee that they even caused this but as a cat mommy I worry about these things. Nevertheless, I'm much encouraged by what she had to say about it on Monday and understand that tomorrow's surgery will be far less invasive than another surgery he had in the distant past for a totally different reason. He should get to come home tomorrow and the surgery is considered relatively non-invasive.
I don't know what it is with Hemmy. He seems to have more medical problems than any other cat (or dog or horse or gerbil, etc.) I've ever had, some, like swallowing a needle, were of his own making. I could have killed him on that occasion except I was busy saving his life and before anyone fusses about needles being left out it wasn't. I was actually sewing with it when it happened. Anyway, my point is that Hemmy can find disaster in a hurry but he's a tough cat and a fighter. Besides, he acts like he feels great. He's eating, playing and teasing us all normally so I feel very positive about tomorrow and my sincere thanks to everyone who's asked about him and how it's all going. I'll post an update after the surgery and let you all know how it goes.
Saying many, many prayers of thanks that he's our cat and asking that the tumors are benign. I feel truly blessed that God sent such an amazing animal into our lives and I'm looking forward to many more years of averting the disasters he rushes headlong into!
