To me it looks like the skin was pushed/scrapped along as if he had his paw under a door and then it was pushed against him.

Help No Vets Open Till Am

He's just a stunning cat, isn't he? I'm so happy that all went well, and he's going to recover just fine.
It's dreadful to find the injury when the vet is closed. But even Friday inspections don't always help. The weekend seems to be more dangerous than when the vet is open. Your vet does sound wonderful and kit was a very good boy.
It might have been from the inside of upholstered furniture, or a bed frame that was a little too big.
