Is there such a product as grain free and additive free raw cat food with ground bone? I am tempted to make my own with a grinder, but will that suffice as a meal on its own? I am also looking for a grain free and additive free dry food. Any help or advice will be appreciated, thank you!

Calling @MServant @Columbine for some UK food help.

Here's some info on raw food:

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/263955/helpful-resources-raw-home-cooked-cat-food-forum

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/264154/raw-feeding-resources

Ground meat and bone isn't a meal. You need to include organs as well or add in supplements. Here's a recipie many people follow: http://catinfo.org/?link=makingcatfood#The_Recipe I'm not sure if you can get a pre-mix such as Alnutrin in the UK but the UK members would know. Making your own raw food is a great way to feed a cat a grain-free additive free food.

What sorts of additives are you looking to avoid in dry food? Here's a listing of some grain-free dry foods available in the UK http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/supplements_specialty_cat_food/grain_free and https://fetch.co.uk/cats/cat-food/grain-free?per-page=72 Here's another UK brand: https://www.canagan.co.uk/catchicken.html

Looks like some great research and advice from Columbine here.   I'm afraid my experience of available foods has been very limited over the last few years due to my cat being on a prescription diet,

I have given Mouse small quantities of Lily's Kitchen pates and also Thrive complete and he will take both though not more than a taster.   I liked the look of contents in both of those makes and both are pretty widely available.

Thank you so so much Columbine and MServant, it is a lot to take in, but will help so much! I am going to make the raw food from the recipe that LTS3 suggested, and will choose a dry food from your other suggestions. My owners thank you!

If you're making your own food, this thread may help too:[thread="272287"][/thread]

I know it's all a lot to take in at once. Now you have the information though, you can just refer back as needed :)

I'm not sure what's available where you are, but you might be interested in Vital Essentials raw food or Nature's Logic kibble.

The VE cat line is freeze-dried foods only, but their frozen foods labelled for dogs look great, too. I'm planning to work them into my rotation next time I buy raw because I love the ingredients so much. I'm 99% sure they're complete for cats but the company didn't give me a straight answer when I asked ("Many of our customers feed our dog products to their cats.") so I'm going to buy taurine powder to add just in case.  http://www.vitalessentialsraw.com/

Nature's Logic kibble has ZERO synthetic ingredients. They use millet as a carb source, which is gluten-free, but I think it's technically a grain.

What's the general take on Orijen, Purizon and Acana dry food? All from Zooplus.

I tend to think that Orijen is a little overpriced, simply because the air miles bump up the cost.

Personally, I'd go for Purizon over Acana - its higer protein, and it looks to me like all that protein is from animal sources (Acana has some protein from legumes in addition to the meat).

All three are great foods though. Go with what your cats (and your wallet ;) ) like best :)
