How long, oh, how long
Until I no longer feel a tickle on my face,
And, reaching up, find tears
I did not know fell?
“Someday, one day,
But not today.”
How long, oh, how long
Until I do not hear the absence of
A tiny heartbeat as loudly
As a lion’s roar in my home?
“Someday, one day,
But not today.”
How long, oh, how long,
Until I no longer wake in the night,
Reaching out to touch a sweet, warm
Weight, so very precious to me, but no
Longer there?
“Someday, one day
But.
Not.
Today."
Until Someday, One Day, my girl. A blink of the eye to you, but a long old road for me.
