Last month when I was on vacation I had a friend staying at my house to take care of my furkids. The day before I got home he had a bit of a panic. He'd gone out for breakfast and when he came back to the house he saw Goldy out in the front yard. He chased her around for 15-20 minutes and never got close to her. When she ran across the street and behind the neighbor's house he finally gave up, wondering how in the world he was going to tell me he'd lost one of my kitties. Then he went around to go in the back door and found Goldy sleeping on the enclosed patio!
I figured my friend had seen the cat that belongs to the neighbors behind me. He seems to be an outdoor only cat and spends a lot of time in my yard chatting with my girls through the screen. He's a red tabby, slightly lighter than Goldy with some white on his chest and paws. He's also bigger and fluffier than her, but I could understand my friend making a mistake when he couldn't get near the cat.
Anyway, a couple of days ago I was doing some yard work out back. When I walked around the house and saw Goldy sitting on the front walk by the door I just about had a heart attack.
It only took about 3 seconds for me to realize it wasn't Goldy, but it definitely wasn't the neighbor's cat either. This one really could be Goldy's twin. It's almost exactly the same size, maybe slightly more solid through the middle, with the same length fur. It's also the same color with the same markings with no white. I couldn't get close enough to see if it was a boy or a girl.
I hadn't seen that cat before and don't have any idea where it came from. I've been told that there is a feral colony just a few blocks from my house but I've never seen any in the immediate area.
