I currently have a beautiful blue (Carmen) who was a stray as well as one of her offspring (Voodoo) living happily with us. Voodoo's litter mate, Gateway, was with us until February when we lost him to FeLV. Gateway was a tuxedo and we miss him terribly.
Yesterday afternoon I look out into my wooded backyard looking for a family of wild turkeys who have been feeding from the residual seed underneath our bird feeders and I see a black and white cat behind our shed! I was able to approach the cat, and it clearly is a stray. She is small, young (maybe 1 yr.), and has lost an eye. She has no visible signs of infection, cuts, etc. She was affectionate albeit wary, active, and alert. She growled a bit when my husband and daughter entered the yard and hid under the shed but came out and allowed them to approach and pet her as I did. I fed her and gave her some water.
Now what do I do? Can I even think about keeping her? I'd like to get her to a vet, especially with the eye situation. I don't even know if I could get her into a carrier. I would obviously want to know her health status and have her vaccinated, etc. before bringing her into our home. How do I or can I introduce her to Carmen and Voodoo? Both are spayed/neutered.
No kitty could replace our Gateway but having this needy, little girl tuxedo show up is gift, just as Carmen was three years ago. Looking forward to any and all advice. Thanks!
