Night time Update, Esther seems to be finished having the babies.oscar the little guy is still doing his best to keep up with his siblings. I’m shocked by how much bigger they are than he is. The gray kittens are so much bigger than the 2 orange ones. And they are violent nipple fighters. They pull the kittens off of their nipple and make loud squeaking sounds

Are you weighing the kittens? You need to so you can make sure the tiny orange ones are gaining 6-10 grams each per day.

I think you should begin supplementing the tiny kittens 1-2 mLs each, probably 2-4 times per day.

The last kitten was born yesterday afternoon so I had planned to weigh them this morning. I tried to supplement him with a syringe last night but he was not interested in eating the formula I warmed it, but how warm should it be? Should I do an entire 1ml at once or in smaller increments?

These are their weights for this morning. It appears that the other orange kitten, Jonah is not small and he is just short. But, Oscar is definitely much smaller than the other babies. I tried to supplement him with one ML of warmed formula today, he had no interest at all and was very floppy in my hands. I warmed him up a lot before I tried to give it to him and I got as much as I could down his throat I did put him on a nipple before I left for work this morning as well. I am not sure if he is going to make it unfortunately

It sounds touch and go with him, unfortunately, but hopefully he will surprise us and get stronger.

When supplementing a weak baby, always go drop by drop so they do not aspirate formula into the lungs.

Unfortunately when I got home from work today little Oscar did not make it. He will be buried with Mary his stillborn sister. Luckily the other three kittens are very strong and love to eat.

Update on kitties! We had a terrible scare yesterday. My cleaning lady was at my house and I told her not to clean the basement room that they are in but she misunderstood me and cleaned it anyway and the vacuum must have scared Esther so badly that when I came home we couldn’t find her or the kittens. Luckily we found her under the couch and she had transported the 3 kittens under there into the liner. We were able to get them out and back to their cabinet best. She seems okay now but I felt so sorry for her!
All kittens are now a week old and have doubled their weight! Mordecai, the biggest has one eye open and is so cute!

Oh my! That must have been frightening for her, poor gal. Glad she’s resettled now.

Hi,

Kittens are doing well, their eyes are opening. I’ve notice that Esther (mommy cat) has one nipple that is quite a bit larger than the others. Is it mastitis or Is this normal? She is behaving normally ( I think, she’s a foster) but just wanted to check.
