Well what do you know.... today, she is interested. Keeps on hissing and growling, but she’s staying close to observe him. This girl really doesn’t know what she wants. I’m going to let Sophie and fate decide. He’s up for adoption, but they have lots of kittens and he is still sick with diarrhea so maybe that’ll give me enough time to see if she warms up to him. Who knows. I’ve always lived my life following the good old “ things always happen for a reason” concept so, if he’s meant to be here, he’ll be here.

Do keep in mind that sometimes the best you get is peaceful co-existence. Cats do NOT have to be "best buds" to benefit from having another cat in the house.

I would be fine with that, but there is nothing peaceful about her interactions with him. If I had a big space, and actual spare room, then I may try it, but he has been cooped up in that tiny bathroom for a month now. He is getting big and wants out. She needs a long, slow introduction. Looks like they found a potential adopter already. I have to set up a virtual meet. I just want to talk with the rescue and make sure they have told her about his current health issues. I don’t want him returned because she has to change his litter box 5 times a day for god knows how long. His brother tested positive for Giardia (on top of Coccidia) and since I found blood in his poop this morning, he’ll start a long course of Flagyl. The vet also said his eye will most likely need to be seen by a specialist to make sure it’s healing ok. I just want to make sure the adopter is fully aware. It would break my heart to see him returned.

Oh. I don't know whether to be relieved or worried about a potential adoptor, and, IF YOU ARE UP FOR IT, and he IS adopted, make sure the rescue knows that you'll take him if an adoption fails. Poor baby.

Actually, MANY spectacularly successful introductions take weeks or MONTHS to complete. Cats can be very slow to warm up to a newcomer.

I’ll absolutely take him back but I may have another foster by then and if that’s the case, I wouldn’t be able to. I was hoping to get more time with him to see how things go with Sophie; but it may not happen.

LOL, for "whatever is best for everyone involved!" actually. Sometimes I have no idea what to hope for, so I fall back on that!

I heard back from the adoption team and they didn’t know about Lance’s tummy issues. They will reach out to the potential adopter to fully inform her and see what she says. I have him at least a couple of days more. Sophie.... well, she’s till Sophie. Up and down. This morning her growl was super impressive, but when he came close to her, her swatting was not serious and when he jumped at the crate when she was really close, she legged it to the other side of the room, poor thing. Since then, she’s hovering, hissing, but close.

How could the adoption team not kn...never mind, ALL resources EVERYWHERE are stretched to the max right now, including rescue/shelter resources. I'll give them a pass on this one this time.

Sophie really does seem like she at least wants to want to get to know him...

They are a 100% volunteer based rescue. They are overwhelmed right now. Yes. The information should have been passed, but I guess somehow it didn’t. I know how tough things are, as I also volunteer on their foster team, so I figured I would check that the adoption team people were aware. As far as Sophie is concerned, I think she desperately wants to want to get to to know him, hat’s exactly right but she gets scared. To be fair to her, the little dude keeps throwing himself at her and she panics, but today, I managed to get her to play, actually engage in real play quite close to him. She still growled when she realized how close she’d gotten, but it was something. It’s a shame he needs to be quarantined. I feel like if I could get him to put his scent on her things and let her do the same with his, it might help, but with both Coccidia and potentially Giardia now, it’s not possible. I also think he might have some sort of allergy. I am thinking food, but the vet says it could also be environmental. His pooping issues could be explained by that, but mostly, I’ve noticed that he is scratching his ears/face and neck more and more. His left ear is getting dirty with waxy brown stuff. I may not know much about cat introduction or how to deal with intestinal parasites, but allergies, that I know a lot about. The vet says it’s not a good idea to change his diet while he is dealing with everything else.

So my little rascal decided to escape the bathroom this morning when I came in. He ran straight to Sophie. She hissed and growled it this time Lance listened. He backed away behind a plant and her box. She stayed there, hissing a bit. Came to smell him closer and then walked away. He was calm, a little intimidated, but not overly scared

Do you think I should just adopt him and work with Sophie?

I've always thought so :), but that's me. I'm not you :heartshape:, and I'm not Sophie :redheartpump:, but her behavior is indicating to me that there is a definite possibility she's coming around. If there was no option at all in her mind, you wouldn't be seeing any good days from her, or anything like this where she just walked away;

We are currently playing together. He is in the crate and she is running around after the wand toy. I told the rescue that I wanted to adopt him. Now I’ve changed my mind so often, they might think I’m a not the right home for him (they know about Sophie) and might not let me,, but I have seen enough change in Sophie over the last few days to think that we can at least achieve peaceful cohabitation. We’ll see what they say.

So the rescue says that now they have an adopter and I have arranged a meet and greet with her, it’s hard to turn around and tell her he’s not available. I’m going to do the virtual meet with her, and if his full medical disclosure puts him off, then I’ll adopt him.... but, surprise, surprise, guess what I found while going through my apt with a black light?! RINGWORM!! 3 coin size spots on the fitted sheet that was on my couch. WTF? How did that happen? I bought this sheet set after started cleaning! So now, I wonder if Sophie has it, or at least, carries it. Although that was the only spot I found, but still 😳
So maybe adopting him right now is not such a good idea after all..

Haha. I was a lot more free with my choice of words when I found it! I’m not sure if my lesions are technically still shedding spores now that I am treating them. So I guess it could be from me... or maybe it is Sophie. I’ll make another appointment to get her checked out. Though I guess if she was the one carrying and shedding it, it would be everywhere by now. 🤞🏻
I just can’t catch a break....
Oh lordy!!!
