Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I'm a first time kitten owner! I grew up with three cats but Leila was the first I ever adopted myself.
Leila was a 6 month old Oriental Shorthair when I adopted her. The woman I bought her from had nearly 30+ kittens in her care, so I'm thinking Leila didn't have a lot of human contact prior to me picking her up.
She's been at my apartment now for just over 5 weeks. I read extensively about confining her to one room and slowing introducing her to the rest of the house, but my apartment is really small. She spends all day and evening hiding - whether it be under the couch or in the closet (at the top with the hangers) but she doesn't come out AT ALL if the suns up.
Once it's night time and she's sure my fiancé and I have gone to bed, she'll come out and eat, do her business in the litter box, jump on her cat tree, and creep in our bedroom. She likes to just stare at us from the doorway. Sometimes she'll jump up on the table next to my bed but if I move an inch, she scrambles away.
My concern is that she's not eating enough and she seems SO stressed out all the time. I was wondering if anyone had any advice based on the info I provided to help her come out of her shell and maybe trust my fiancé and I?
I have pet her while she was on her cat tree and I could tell she was loving it but after that night, she stopped using her cat tree while we were awake. So yeah, I screwed that up. Anyways, any advice would be awesome!!! Here's some pictures of Leila too
