Hello! My husband surprised me on Valentine's by paying the pet deposit for our home and telling me to go to the shelter to pick out a companion. My last cat died in 2004 after a sudden onset of illness. It was a huge shock and blow as she was only 10 and I was sure we had many years left together. I had had her since I was in elementary school and she died to spring of my Senior year at college.
Between 2004 and the present we have got married and finished having our family. We didn't want to take on a cat until our children were older. It is very, VERY hard being a cat person with no cat to look after. I was so excited and happy to be picking out a pet. I had it in my head that we needed a 2-3 year old female that had already proven herself good with young children.
I brought home the sweetest and most goofy little 1-year-old male ever. He is totally adorable and a perfect fit. He loves being in the middle of the kids' chaos (not all the time, but a lot). He is loving and playful. It is amusing to us how soft his 'mew' and purring is when his personality is so huge. I fulled expected him to hide out and be skittish the first few days but he took over this place like it was his own from the start. His first action was to dart under our bed then pop out again and explore then entire place with his tail help high. It was pretty impressive!
We renamed him Pangur Ban. He has been previously adopted and then brought back a month and a half later because he chewed an expensive purse and some shoes. It is sad, especially because the people that adopted him before also saw fit to declaw him. Thankfully he displays no linger pain or other issues from it. I can't believe anyone would give him up, he is so affectionate and a total darling. He is also an equal opportunity love bug and doesn't seem to have a favorite person.
