If you look at my previous threat you can see the beginning of how I got here.

. He’s a Ragdoll under 2 years old. I noticed him not eating 8 days ago on Monday. Friday he WAS taken the the vet and has gotten lab test and x rays showing no major problems. He is slightly drinking and not pooping. If he does it’s solid and small as my pinky first knuckle. He doesn’t act as energetic as he used too. Won’t play with his toys. doesn’t throw up, no diarrhea.

Today(Tuesday) I am at the ER for an ultrasound.
They found a yellow like fluid build up in the abdomen and enlarged lymph nodes in the stomach. I’ve noticed he is aggressive when they press on his stomach.
They suspect it may be FIP. While the original vet presumed it to be cancer.

Hearing all this I was in a bit of a shock so I only remember the few things I was smart enough to write in my notes and am awaiting to talk to the Vet again in person this time.

They went through a couple different options like

steroids to see if that would reduce inflammation

I was told of the FIP warriors FB.

and another procedure that I can’t recall at the moment and will update this when I get more news.

any info or support is always appreciated. Thank you

From what I read there is no test to prove that it is FIP.
so I’m curious what would be advised next steps.

I would seriously join the FIP Warriors 5.0 group on Facebook. Apparently, there are a lot of imposters out there, so go to this site and join in order to ask your questions. Testing for FIP is difficult, and I am not sure if there have been any new developments in this area, but this group should be able to advise you.

I am not a vet but your description just made me think of something I am going through with a kitty. I don’t want to give any false hope here. Please let me be clear on that point. Our case was just weird! I do think you should check out the link given by FeebysOwner FeebysOwner . Those people have lots of experience. That said, what happened with the kitty here was the same symptoms you describe. Of course that can be many things. At first we thought cancer, then FIP. After enemas, x-rays, ultrasounds, lactulose to help her poop, we got some abnormal cells from one sample. Fast forward to going to a vet school and having an oncologist/surgeon do a CT we saw a cloudy mass in her abdomen. Odd looking but could still be some form of either illness. Samples were aspirated and after many on staff reviewed the results and the tissue was scrutinized, they found the cloudy tissue was old dead tapeworm! How did it get there? The thought is now that it migrated through the mucosa. Although another doc thinks an egg/worm could have traveled through the bloodstream or some other route. This cat had been treated for parasites and specifically for tapeworms in the past but….
The diagnosis was something entirely odd and new. The treatment was to give high doses of Praziquantel and re test via CT. After a round of the meds, another ultrasound did not show what we needed to see so another CT. The specialist still suspected we might find cancer but upon reviewing the CT but the mass has dissipated greatly! No tumors, this kitty is doing well and is off the lactulose. We will go through one more high dose of the tapeworm meds and will see if the rest of the tissue dissipates. I am sure most vets would dismiss this diagnosis because it is new to the vet world but it is being researched now and hopefully will be something looked at when there is an unknown factor. You can ask your vets if it would do any harm to try this or for a CT but whatever else, research! Go to that link above and and see if anyone there can help too. Our hearts are with you and your sweet rag doll. If your vet wants to know more, I can probably give them contact info to the specialists. Sending many purrs your way.

I just want to say that if it is FIP, that new medication (which as far as I know is still only available via the Black Market but the FB page will have lots of info on it and is readily available) has worked well for a few cats here on TCS. It's a long process, medication daily for months, but for the most part, does seem to work.

Did they test that abdominal fluid while he was there? It seems that is a pretty good indicator, so if they didn't, I'd be surprised.

Definitely join that group as should be a wealth of information.

Do keep us posted.
