Hi all. I am confused about feliway and wonder if someone can help me understand... From what I have read, feliway is used to calm a cat e.g. for use in a carrier. But it is also used as a repellent e.g. when sprayed on furniture. How does this work? Also is it a good idea to use feliway on furniture when acquiring a new kitten as part of training to prevent scratching?

Feliway mimics feline pheromones, which helps cats to relax. It doesn't work against scratching/spraying unless this behavior is anxiety-induced.

Putting Feliway on furniture tricks the cat into thinking he's already marked it as his territory; scratching is a marking behavior.
