I have been feeding it to both my girls and they love it especially fromm the pouches...the ingredients seem ok..whats everyones opinion?
corn, more corn, sorhagum and its low grain>??? nope and by product filled along with chemical preservatvies/// not a food I would touch...Originally Posted by jlphilli
Actually, I think Eukanuba is a GREAT kitten food. It has one of the lowest grain percentages of any food around (other than EVO). I started using this and my kitten LOVES it. I know some people don't approve of by-products, but I would rather have that than grains in place of it for my little carnivorelol
The coats are from the omega 6 and three .. Eukanuba I will credit with having lots of fish oils... but the BY PRODUCTS ARENT just organs evan if specified ... and at least the animals I have seen dont eat much more than liver heart kidney occationally the brainOriginally Posted by Plebayo
Everyone says Eukanuba is bad, but a majority of the people who show dogs [and I think even cats] feed it and recommend it for your pet to have a nice coat quality and overall good health.
I've seen puppies grow into dogs on it and they looked amazing [as compared to a dog fed Pedigree etc.]

Also a common misconception on this board is that by-products are bad.
Only SOME are. Meat by-products are bad, feathers, hooves, horns, etc. Stuff the animal normally would not eat that holds no nutritional value. However, chicken by products, beef by-products etc. are thoroughly cleaned organ meats [heart, liver etc.] intestine [cleaned out] and yes undeveloped eggs. If a cat kills an animal in the wild, they usually eat everything, especially if the prey is small. If the prey is large they still eat organ meat, and the gut etc. If a cat eats a small bird they are eating undeveloped eggs. Specific by-products as far as I am concerned aren't bad. Meat by-products however are a waste because they hold no nutritional value and aren't something your pet would choose.
Well maybe they are improving... But liver is a by product in a dry form and one that I dont like in dry ... there are two levals of by product in here strait and meal ... the rice is the least quality in rice as is the corn ...Originally Posted by jlphilli
Hey Sharky.....there is only ONE corn product in the food and NO SORGHUM.....read the ingredients:
Chicken, Chicken Liver, Chicken By-Product Meal, Brewers Rice, Fish Meal (source of fish oil), Corn Grits, Chicken By-Products, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of vitamin E, and Citric Acid), Dried Egg Product, Dried Beet Pulp (sugar removed), Natural Chicken Flavor, Brewers Dried Yeast, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of vitamin B1), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of vitamin B6), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (source of vitamin B2), Inositol, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), DL-Methionine, Choline Chloride, Minerals (Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Carbonate), Rosemary Extract
Hmm....this is not an easy question to answer. Very few foods have cuts in gravy that are high quality. A few I can suggest are:Originally Posted by Jaclyn4238
whatr would you suggest i feed them instead? THey loave the cuts in gravy...and i know nutro is having oxidation issues right now with their pouches
I only allow by products( and they should be just bone and organs) in wet and raw food .. in dry they are just gross ... I have yet to see any of the animals eat the head , feet of an animal... Yes I have one intestine and stomach eater but it is freshOriginally Posted by jlphilli
Like I said...I would rather have many MEAT byproducts than an abundance of grain which is the problem with most holistic cat foods.
I don't know how much you can trust all vets on nutrition.Originally Posted by KittyLova
I always see on tv about Eukenuba and how good it is. If the vet says it is good then feed them it. I would ask vets about it.
People eat chicken feet... and my dog who killed and ate a chicken had no problem eating most of the carcass.I only allow by products( and they should be just bone and organs) in wet and raw food .. in dry they are just gross ... I have yet to see any of the animals eat the head , feet of an animal... Yes I have one intestine and stomach eater but it is fresh... when You take out the water lost via cooking this food is mainly chn head feet and organs consentrated... sorry YUCK
I've seen cats swallow mice whole, therefore they are eating EVERYTHING.but the BY PRODUCTS ARENT just organs evan if specified ... and at least the animals I have seen dont eat much more than liver heart kidney occationally the brain
I also have to edit what I said. meat meal contains the rendered product from mammal tissues, exclusive of blood, hair, hoof, horn, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents except in such amounts as may occur unavoidably in good processing practices.Meat byproducts in dog food by law do not include hair, horn, teeth or hooves, feathers or manure. It does include organs, including the lungs, spleen, intestines, brains, kidneys and liver, and in the case of chicken byproducts will include the head and feet.
Wild animals will eat the whole carcass and some domestics will none of my animals in 28 yrs have ... they will eat parts ... Have they regurgitated after eating whole prey>>>?? I KNOW not all by products are bad I am VERY choosey as to what mine get... The site is good and quite accurate ..Originally Posted by Plebayo

That website talks a lot about food ingredients. It's geared more towards dogs. But it explains everything. It's great you don't like to see by-products in a food, however not all by-products are strictly hooves and horns.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who can see the nutritional benefits of specific by-products and don't believe that all by-products are bad. I don't think meat by-products can legally include hooves and horns though. I too, have seen a cat eat a mouse, a very friendly stray cat named Leo that used to visit my old grandparents regularly caught mice and rabbits from the canyon. The mouse I saw him eat, everything was eaten except a part of the mouse's face which included the eyes and the nose. I think it's more natural to include some of these cleaned organ meats, cleaned out intestines and undeveloped eggs because of their nutritional value than it is to formulate a commercial cat food that only has muscle meat and carbohydrates. But I usually feel that my point of view is radically swimming against the tide of the many people on cat forums who believe by-products are evil.Originally Posted by Plebayo
