In the kitchen! I was sitting having a cup of coffee with my friend when we heard a bit of a noise and this bluetit emerged from a hole in the kitchen wall where the electric fuse cupboard sits on the wall and it hasn't all been joined up yet. It flew at the window but knocked itself onto the floor. Unfortunately Ellie was faster on the uptake than we were, and she leapt for it and got it, then of course would not let go. All I can say is it died quickly. By the time I got it away from her it was dead.
It answers a question though - for several nights last week the cats knew there was something in that wall, and they creeped me out watching the wall and even leaping at it, following something in there. I thought maybe it was a mouse, but it must have been this bird. I cannot find any external holes where it could have got in though, so I hope no others decide to commit hari-kiri that way. I must try and find the entrance before the spring, or I will have a nest in there!
