I have never dealt with this before and I’m waiting at the vet’s office still for them to get us some meds and a sub-q.
My girl is 12. She had dental work last month and the pre op bloodwork showed an elevated kidney function of 20. I don’t know what the scale is.
Today, after days of dwindling eating, she came back in and now has a kidney function of 27.
We are starting a blood pressure medication to her her kidneys and the doctor didn’t feel that we needed to do sub-q all of the time.
Can this be reversed? Will the numbers keep climbing?
I was told today that the dental surgery could also be having a lingering effect on her kidney count as her body deals with the junk that was in the diseased teeth.
We’re not talking special diets or anything like that. We’re going to give it 3 months on this medication to see if it makes a difference at all. I feel like the medication is a precaution more than anything and it’s not “too” serious yet.
I’m devastated. She’s my baby and I know she’s getting old, but losing her is something I’m not prepared for at all.
