Curious Question
So true!Hmmmmmm.....................I think the answer should come from a cat
You're rightCats do not like hooded boxes, it traps odors and disgusts them. Humans like it, but our friends do not.
My female took to standing up at the end of her urinatiing sessions , and boy would I like to get a hooded box, but she wouldn't like it so I don't. (The vet doesn't know why this behavior started at age 11, I thought of every possible reason myself)
Instead , I purchased plastic cutting boards , the flimsy kind, and insert them in the back and one side , I put paper towel in layers behind the box just in case. Urine hits the plastic boards and I wash them daily .
Clean the litter box twice a day for all cats and there should be 1 box per cat plus 1.
I use jumbo litter boxes and they have pretty decent wall height if that interests you.
Yes we want the cat to be happy so we give the litter box he or she likesThat's something that has to be left up to the cat. Our last one didn't care one way or the other, so he had a hooded box. Our current cat won't use an open box at all. I work at a shelter, where we generally have around 40 - 70 cats, and around 90% of the cats use the hooded boxes (or don't care and will use both).
The boxes are jumbo ones with the flaps and filters removed. They're scooped at least twice a day at the shelter. I scoop 3 - 5 times a day at home. A hooded box that's too small, isn't scooped often enough, or has a door trapping odors inside is just going to cause avoidance.
Ok then if I must. Yeah it's ok but I may change my mind then HE will have to get an open one. Then I might change my mind again if I so wish just for the fun of it. Ha, I have him right under my thumb, err paw. Now go away you lot, I need another rest.Hmmmmmm.....................I think the answer should come from a cat
