So my kitten has conjunctivitis in both eyes now and he is on eye ointment, drops, but now has decided he doesn't want to eat any of the lysine we have been putting in his food tonight. I feel like his healing is going really slow and I want to make sure that while I have this week off i'm doing as much as I can do help him heal quickly!

Just wanted to know
- I've been doing warm compresses, has anyone found that to be super effective?
- Anything you recommend as far as activity protection? He plays with his sister a lot and we have a cone but he gets super depressed when we put it on him and he wont eat or drink even with lifted bowls to reach. (I think hes just too sad to even want to)
- The doctor doesn't want to put him on antiviral eye medication because then we would need a specialist to look at it and he wants to give it more time before calling someone to see him. In his opinion he has improved (we see him everyday so maybe my opinion is bias) Did anyone find something that really worked for speeding the healing?

Wanted to get some advice from people who are more experienced than us!

So sorry to hear about your baby! Yes this is exactly it. Our kitten had it in both eyes as well and this is what we did. It worked really well!

1. We did a warm compress around 5-6 times a day. Put a damp towel in the microwave for 10-20 seconds and fanned it out so it was warm to the rich but not hot (put on your inner arm as a test) and we held it there for a few seconds at a time. 30 to a minute if he liked it enough and he loved it because it got the gunk out in a day or so. We usually did it before the drop each time and in between times. The doctor gave us a saline solution and when we did compresses we found he didn’t rub as much

2 we used a humidifier in the room. Sounds silly but it was actually super helpful and I would sometimes hold him over it for a few seconds and he was weirded out but we noticed it helped with the weird brown discharge from the sneezing and he seemed to breath easier and overall seemed to be able to relax more!

It started with one eye and moved to the other. Are you able to get to a vet today? If not feel free to message me if you need some at home care until you can take your baby in!

Did the vet do a stain to check for a scratch on the cornea? My rainbow bridge kitty used to get conjunctivitis often. Usually it cleared up in about a week with eye drops and eye ointment. She also had weird eyelashes and those would sometimes fold inward and cause irritation. You might try an antihistamine to see if allergies is the cause. You can add plain powdered lysine to wet food with a bit of water added to the consistency of a slurry. Powdered lysine is tasteless and odorless. We use the Vitacost brand in the 1 lb jar (I have 5 cats). Just a heaping 1/4 t is equal to 500mg. Give it twice a day for best impact. You can also try adding a little bit of colloidal silver to wet food to boost the immune system.

We did and no scratches or issues. This was months ago and we found out that it was due to a Upper Respiratory infection. Luckily its no longer an issue! Thank you for all the advice everyone!!!
