Okay some I'm a fairly new cat owner. A few weeks ago, I adopted a large short-hair black cat named Shadow. The agency stated that he's great with other cats, and is often the dominant one. Few weeks later, I adopt a companion, a 5-month old brown tabby named Brooke. Same agency, also said that they'd get along. Well, I know new cats at first tend to be a tad violent against each other, but I'm not sure what's okay and what's not. Shadow is obviously the violent one here, as Brooke is quite scared of him. It's only been the first day, and haven't had to bury anyone, but are there ways to help them get along better?

Try a slow introduction:

Cats are unlike dogs, they don't play well when thrust in a room together. They're territorial creatures and for the most part, don't like having their territory invaded.

Let Shadow have run of the house and put the newcomer in a "safe" room for now as she gets her bearings.
