I can't afford a private vet. Pdsa is a, charity so always busy and slow

II've been watching Toby going in and out of the tray now pushing, nothing comes out
I'm. Worried about him getting a, mega colon

II have very little money
I need this sorting before Christmas

II can phone them.. Monday they open at 9

AAll I can. Do is leave a message with thd reception to pass on to the vet and they should called me back
It's quite a trek for me on the bus too

II still think something hard in there, vet said lots of poop all soft and it will come out when it ready
Well it's not
He normally goes twice a day
Smear poo marks all over too
I see a different vet every time I go thete. Lots are foreign too
I'm frustrated and it sorted. It's not fair
I feel very stressed
I still think stich too tight
I'm no vet, but I know my cat

I can't choose my vet unfortunately
I'd prefer an English one

The emergency vets is ridiculous expensive. Only them open over Christmas and weekends

Megacolon would cause a similar problem being that it amounts to a form of constipation. Not saying that Toby has this though. If you are able to go tomorrow, will he be able to get an enema or might another vet make a different decision? Emergency care is hugely expensive here, too, and I understand that you are trying to avoid that.

I shall ring them. Tomorrow and stress his urgent it is
Could be anyone I see
I've no idea, what they will do
Would a scan or xray show up any poo or if stitch is too tight
He's my baby and I'm. So stressed

Tell him that you want to know if there is some other way, aside from the vet, trying to feel for the stitch, that would show any other information that would be helpful. You have probably been doing this, but try to give them a very concrete timeline of everything that is happening and what is going wrong. If you have to use what you’ve posted here on the site do that.

Stress the seriousness of this, that you have a cat, with a permanent purse string suture, who is not able to pass a bowel movement. If the suture were going to be removed, it would be one thing. Since it isn’t, they can’t leave you with a cat in this condition. If the suture is actually fine, then the next step becomes that they have to figure out if there is something else that is causing an obstruction like mega colon.

I. Explained it's an. Emergency and I'm. Worried Toby may get a mega colon and that hes licking his bum and had tried to poo but nothing comes out
I said please tell all. This to the vets does he need a scan and he's not had a proper poo in 2 weeks, only a fingernail sized poo Thurs night

She said vets not in til 9 10am. Il pass on the message and call you back
Hmm

Receptionists just rang me back, said she spoke to the emergency vet and he said its not an emergency, and I should book a none essential appointment, the earliest they have is Wednesday 1 40pm

I'm. Really worried and upset, I never got to speak to a vet, the receptionist said she told him everything I said too and t h ey she's sorry but she's not vet trained and Il have to wait until Wednesday

I aslo email them and I just rang them back
He's stopped eating and has a runny eye now. Brown tear stain
He has a dry crusty piece of poo on his bum. He still can't go
The receptionist rang me back and said the vet who saw him Friday said keep giving him lactoluse and it's not an emergency, there not concerned about him apparently and I'm. To come in on Wednesday afternoon

I feel. Useless. He's my baby

I am sorry that you are facing such opposition in trying to get an appointment. Go in on Wednesday if that is all that they can offer you. Does any of this go back to the fact that they wanted you to have the surgery? I know that they told you it was high risk at his age, which is entirely true, but are you getting any run around because you did not take this option? I am astounded, no matter what veterinary care system you are in, that this is not being taken more seriously.

This sounds serious and connected to the suture. The threads I am linking are a long shot as I don't believe that you are dealing with simple constipation but it discusses common remedies that are often mentioned on TCS. Miralax is Restoralax and Osmolax in other countries, I believe. If that does not make sense, the main and only ingredient is polyethylene glycol 3350.

Glamazon Siamese Big Baby CAN'T POOP
The last question in this thread so far is if the cat might have megacolon.

Cat on lactulose and cisapride, still not pooping
Slightly older thread discusses lactulose losing its effectiveness

I don't think that you should try anything without consulting with your vets as your cat has other extenuating conditions at play. Cisapride is another medication for constipation and megacolon, but might be harder to get.

However, in your case, be cautious that you don't create a situation where the vet is more than happy to let you go home and try something else that does not work as it gets you out of the office one more time. Don't be too helpful or lose focus on the fact that you cat needs medical help more than another prescription.

I don't think it's because he may need a coloxpy
He's still not pooped
He tried last night. Jusr Tiny piece of poop on his bum. That's it

No he's not constipated at all

I'm. Convinced it s linked to the suture

I tried 3times yesterday to speak with a vet
I emailed them, no reply
Amd all I got was the receptionist back and forward giving vet my messages
Who keep saying keep up with the lactoluse
I'm. Going to ask on Wednesday if they can scan him. Not sure if they will

Would a scan show the suture and blocked poop?
I'm. Not a vet, but I know yes not constipated and keeps trying to go
So it's obviously something blocked to me

I am. So worried

Poor Toby he keeps going back to the litter tray straining. Nothing there
I'm. So distressed
He's off his food too. Very unusual
And not seen him drink. He's very restless

No apologies necessary. Seeing pictures helps us to understand what is going on. if your only option is to wait until Wednesday and take him back to the vet make sure that you stress that he is in discomfort, he absolutely cannot poop, and he’s not eating. Don’t qualify anything. He’s extremely sick and he needs help.

x-rays can show intestinal, blockages and impacted, fecal matter, although there can be some exceptions. Push for whatever imaging you think might help.

Tobys gone downhill. He's laid down flat on the carpet
Wont eat or drjnk
Liquid poop smeared on bum
He's in and out of litter tray nothing coming out
Growls when I touch belly and bum

Some of the vets are useless won't listen
Laxatives done nothing
This is. Greedy cat who eats not stop and does 2 poops a, day
Now not pooped in about 3 weeks apart from a finger nIl sized blob Thursday

Anyway I rang them back and told them straight. Said bring him in for 3pm today
So I'm now in a taxi
Preying he's OK

I’m glad you were finally able to get an appointment for Toby. His sutures are clearly too tight. Just because the vet can put a finger through them doesn’t mean the sutures aren’t the problem. He likely has a larger piece of poop that is unable to get past them, while the feces that’s able to exit is the soft stuff that can ooze around it. I hate it so much when vets insist things are fine instead of looking at the clearly unwell and suffering cat that’s right in front of them. Going weeks without pooping is not okay and is far beyond “waiting for him to be ready”.

Just got back. Saw the same vet as last time, the one who said her little finger can fit in so poo should too

She examined his tummy as did a colleague, who said not constipated. But lots of poo

She said I'm. Too bring him back tomorrow morning 830am.for xray
Under anathesia. Then theyl discuss the options, either enema, re do the suture if it was thst causing the issue, I think. It is, or discuss colopexy
I said can't you do. It now
She said no vets leave soon
No one here at night

Better tomorrow when, a vet can. Monitor him all. Day
She asked me to sign a consent form for the anaesthetic
Kept going on about the risks, and they do lose pets on the table
Getting me worried now
He only had this stitch put in 3 weeks ago, about the time he started having issues

I'm. Certain it's the stitch
She was very evasive, and just kept saying we will see

Tobys refused food again

Hope he l. Be ok
I'm. Exhausted
Back up thete again in the morning to drop him off, then come home, wait for them to. Ring me results of xray and discuss what to do
