Hi,
Mushky has been part of out family since November last year. Since then she has had little interaction with other cats other than twice when she eloped with a feral cat she seemed to have affections for. She herself was also a feral and it took her some time to get used to us. Still she dislikes being stroked or petted however has started to adore being groomed!
There is another feral (I think stray!) in our neighbourhood who slowly began to trust me over the course of three months. I named her Kiki and 3 days ago I decided it was time she becamse a part of my family. Since Kiki has come into the house Mushky has completely changed. She is constantly hissing and running away from my husband and me.
Since arriving Kiki has been kept in one bedroom, she has her litter toys food and water in the same room adjoining to a balcony for view of the street. She is very happy and is constantly purring whenever we go into her room to spend time with her. Mushky only saw her once for 3 minutes 2 days ago, yet this is enough for her sudden change.
Although she never liked being stoked she would allow us to stroke her for a few seconds and she always enjoyed our company. She would follow us room by room and always sleep in whichever room we were in. Now she seems to hate our company and is forever hiding under the bed or in the wardrobe.
I am very very worried about her state of mind and do not know what to do.
I spoke to my vet who said I was irresponsible for bringing another adult cat into our house and that I should have tried a kitten But to my defence I didn't actively go out looking for another cat. Kiki was there and we bonded everyday in the garden. It just didn't feel right to leave her out especially during the cold!
Please any advice!!
