Cat and allergy friendly floor covering ideas?

Hi fellow cat lovers,

I'm looking for floor covering ideas. We currently have EVA foam puzzle tiles in the middle of our living room floor, to make a softer place to sit down and play or exercise on. Unfortunately, one of our cats is tearing off and ingesting pieces, so they have to go.

We can put an area rug there, but I'm wondering if there are any other more allergy friendly options I may be missing. Or, if we have to get an area rug, I'm wondering if any of you have any suggestions on what type will be easiest to keep clean or vacuumed, to keep allergens down.

I have the washable Ruggable rugs and love them! I vacuum them and throw them in the washer and dryer quite often due to 2 vomit-prone cats and 2 young kids. A big bonus for me is also that my cats aren’t attracted to using them as scratchers, which is what used to happen with every other rug I would buy.
