My cat Miss has a soft tissue injury in her leg. She had a sedating
xray today, and we are picking her up in a few hours to get further results.
She is a larger cat-almost 20lbs. (we are working on her weight)
She has colitis, and with her injury the past two days it has been a bit hard for her
to go-she has had a bit of constipation.
I know both of these drugs can be constipating-but she needs pain management.
I was leaning toward bupranex, hoping I can give her that since it
I can rub it on her gums. But I need some feedback. They suggested
Metacam and I said no way after reading about it on here.
. The vet was very respectful ofmy wishes and is willing to work with me. I am also nervous about
dosing. I dont want her tripping out. Just because she is a larger cat they
always give her more than she really needs.
I am hopeful these meds don't make her sick. I just want her to get better.
I took my bed apart and am only using the mattress because I don't want
her to jump on it and hurt herself.
Any feedback in the next three hours would be very helpful.
Thanks so much!
Jen

Good call on Metacam - never EVER give it
I never had problems with Buprenex - just don't use it long term due to constipation issues.
You can always use miralax to help your baby - 1/4 tsp a day on the wet food will do it. Feed her as much wet food as possible, it will help also.
Good luck! :wavey:

She is home but she had severe stress for an hour when she got here
and was panting and breathing very hard. She finally seems calmer and
her respiratory rate is improving. I did get the buprenex but dont want to
give it to her until i feel she is calm enough. She is on luctalose in case things
get backed up.
She has a "slipping patella" and is on room confinement and no exercise
for four weeks. I have no idea how to keep her from jumping-I am hoping
she will lose interest because right now she is fascinated with a dressed
she never jumps on. I have my mattress on the floor but she isnt interested
and that is usually her favorite place.
We have her on a weight loss diet (yes, it is dry but I will supplement with
wet because I like her to have moisture and will eventually transition
her to mostly wet.)
It is going to be a long 4 weeks.

Awwww Poor baby :(
If she does eat wet, you might want to consider transitioning her faster - cutting the dry all together will be the best thing you will do for her to lose the weight
Make sure she loses weight veeeeeeery slowly though - she should not lose more than 1lb per month - that is not safe :nono:
Good lucky these next 4 weeks :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Tramadol (kind of like valium) would be prescibed to keep her quiet, I would assume, but be careful with it. My Lil Bit was prescibed one half tablet and it actually made her walk around bumping into everything and when I rediced it to a quarter of a dose, she walked in circles. It had the opposite effect of what it was prescibed for. Of course, I'm sure every cat reacts differently. I hope your kitty has a fast recovery!
