My 4 yr. old female cat was just diagnosed with a bladder stone. I have been dealing with her symptoms for about 2 months. She has been on 2 rounds of Clavamox prescribed by her regular vet, which did nothing. I took her to an emergency vet just before Christmas that said she probably had cystitis & gave her a pain killer, an antiinflammatory & amitryptillyne. She did well on this but her symptoms returned one week after going off these. I tried homeopathic remedies such as cantharis & also tried Cosequin, Duralactin & UTI-free from Native Remedies. With all of these the symptoms would disappear momentarily but return. I finally took her to a more expensive vet who did an ultrasound & found 1 tiny stone. She suspected hyperthyoidism because her heartrate was fast & she has lost 3lbs. in 2 months, but the bloodwork came back fine. She gave me Science Diet S/O in wet & dry, but my cat will not eat the wet. I have been trying during this time to transition her over from dry to wet, but she hates the wet which is why I believe she has lost so much weight.
I suppose my question here is how long will she have to be on this diet before I see improvement with the litterbox symptoms & her pain? She was up & down last night in her litterbox & crying in pain. I have dealt with this so long & my nerves are just shot. I can't stand to see her in pain & our relationship is strained because of the vet visits & the meds. I asked the vet assistant how long before seeing improvement & she said 6 weeks. I can't believe that there is nothing else that can be done. I spent $500 + $23 for food in 2 days of vet visits last week & my cat is no better. Am I being impatient? I just can't stand this. It is torture.
Any help or encouragement anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
