I went to NC for 10 days and brought Seamus with me. I took everyone's advice and did not sedate him for the flight. He was a dream. So calm when we walked through the metal detector and hardly meowed a bit when we were on the plane. At one point, after reaching in and petting him, I didn't secure the zipper well enough and he was able to push his head out. When we got to the cabin, he was a little wired for the first night (no surprise really after a cross country trip in a carrier). He kept waking my stepdad up wanting to play. He settled down quickly and fell in love with the screened porch. He'd spend hours out there chasing bugs or watching birds. I felt bad that I had to bring him home, where we don't have an enclosed porch. The only thing bad that happened was he managed to find his way into the fireplace and got covered with soot, which meant I had to give him a bath. That was tricky. But all in all, he was great traveler and I think he had a good time. He did enjoy getting to see my husband again, as did I.
So thank you to everyone for the advice.
