Get a ball of yarn or twine.
Pull out about ten feet or so. Walk around the house with the yarn trailing behind you.
Kitty will soon follow and attack the tail of the yarn.

He follows the end of the yarn through the living room...around the coffee table...down the hallway...up the stairs...into the bedroom...bathroom...behind the toilet...back down the stairs...two or three more laps around the living room and kitchen.........

Just don't get so far ahead that the string gets caught on furniture and things.
If you get so far ahead that you circle around behind so that Kitty sees you with the whole ball of yarn. He'll get distracted.

This probably mimics the way cats would hunt in the wild. Don't you think so?

Chasing the yarn is Casper's new favorite game! :D
He would probably do it for an hour if I didn't get tired out first. ;)

Caspers Human,

Yarns or ball of yarns are not safe for cats. If swallowed by the cats, it can become a choking hazard and can cause internal blockage anywhere from the throat to the intestines.
A cat's tongue has backward-facing barbs which has a scratchy texture which help them remove dead hair, dirt and external parasites.
It is impossible for the cat to spit out anything that is caught in the tongue. The only way is down the throat.
String type toys are dangerous to cats as it can cause strangulation and gets tangle up on the claws. Do use string toys with care and supervision

No, we don't let Casper play with yarn by himself.

The human holds one end of the yarn while the cat plays with the other.

Yes, we know that cats can swallow yarn.  Casper is always within sight when we play the yarn game.  If Casper looked like he was in danger of swallowing yarn, we would stop and take it away.

The same goes for chewed or clawed up, little bits and pieces that fray off the end of the yarn.  Those also get cleaned up, taken away and thrown into the trash.  The same goes for the frayed end.  It gets clipped off with scissors and the bits are thrown away.

Casper's girl-human would be devastated if we lost him because of such an accident.

We are very careful with Casper.

Casper gives his girl-human lots of kitty-loving!

He was abandoned before we got him.  Now, he is quite the spoiled kitty!

It is as if he won the lottery when he came here!  ;)
