    cat clawing/biting at bedsheet

Ok, thanks for confirming my suspicion. I couldn't think of any other reason for it.

    cat clawing/biting at bedsheet

I have a male 2 1/2 year old American shorthair. I washed the duvet cover yesterday and put it on the bed. As I was getting ready to go to sleep, he started clawing and nipping at a couple of spots on the blanket; he seemed agitated. He was upset when I gently tried to move him. He stopped after...

Keep cat out of bedroom at night

I have problems waking up during the night, and I'm not sure if it's due to my kitty. It might not be.....but I guess I want to see if it is.

Keep cat out of bedroom at night

I've had my 18-month old cat for about 7 months. I am moving to a bigger apartment tomorrow, and that apartment has a bedroom with a door (unlike my current apartment, a studio). I am tempted to keep my cat out of the bedroom at night, but I'm afraid he'll hate me forever. Will it destroy our...

Cat hates it when I sit at desk

Well I tried with the bed and then swapped it out for a small blanket. So far, no dice. I moved to the kitchen table and it wasn't much better. I'm now in an armchair and he's sitting behind me on his cat tree. He just climbed on the folding table I'm using but I pushed him off. I realize I'm...

Cat hates it when I sit at desk

I do have a small cat bed, although he's never used it. I'll put it on my desk. Any ideas on how to make it more attractive for him?

Cat hates it when I sit at desk

I've had Otis, a 1 year old male, for about a month and a half. He hates it when I sit at my desk! Clearly he thinks when I sit there he's not getting as much of my attention. Anyway, when I sit there, he gets on the floor and taps me with his paw a few times. Then, he'll often bite me (not...

Cat nipping at leg when hungry

Thanks, this is great advice! I'm feeding him 1 can a day, which is around 200 calories. At 11 pounds, that seems like enough calories. I also leave out a cup or so of kibble during the day. He follows me into the kitchen every time I go there, even when there's kibble out. for him. I hope he...

Cat nipping at leg when hungry

I’ve had a 1 y.o. male kitty for the past month. When I get up in the morning he will lightly nip at my pajama pants/leg until I get out of bed and feed him. Then at lunch (and sometimes dinner) he will do the same thing. Today it was a little annoying as i was trying to have a Zoom call and he...

    Electrical cord safety question

The tip about leaving out clothes is a great one. I think I will probably put off the overnight until next week. I've been away for as much as 9 hours at a time, and nothing has happened, but you're right, I should probably have someone check in on him and I don't have any one at this point. And...

    Electrical cord safety question

I am planning to leave the 1 y.o. cat I adopted a month ago overnight this weekend. (14-16 hours) I bought some flex tubing to cover up cords, but didn't get enough. Is it safe enough for one night if I just unplug everything? I noticed him trying to nibble at a cord today so I covered up those...

New cat - locking out of bedroom

Thanks, I will try that. I'm also going to hopefully get the screen today to block off my sleeping area. It's 6 feet tall, so hoping he can't jump over it.

New cat - locking out of bedroom

I give him wet food 3 times a day. The issue is waking me up so early. I leave out a bowl of kibble overnight, so there is food he can have overnight. He knows where the bowl is and I have seen him eat it. I also play with him at night and give him wet food before I go to bed. The issue is...

New cat - locking out of bedroom

Well it looks like we're going backwards. After yesterday, when he woke me at 5:30, today it was more like 5. I don't know why he's gone back to waking me earlier. I tried going back to sleep with him in my sleeping space and just as I was falling back to sleep he woke me. I caved and filled...

New cat wants to eat my food - after being fed!

Thanks, you're right, no one is in danger. FWIW, I do feed him first, but after he's done he comes after my food anyway. I will try pushing him away as you suggested. I also bought a "slow feed" bowl, so maybe that will help him take more time to eat.

New cat wants to eat my food - after being fed!

He seems to want my food whatever it is. Today I was eating my breakfast oatmeal and he wanted that. So putting him away when eating meat is not too much of a punishment?

New cat wants to eat my food - after being fed!

Thanks, that is useful information! I'll check the can. I'm not doing the greatest job monitoring how much dry food he has. I just leave it out for him to graze if he wants, and for when I'm out at work or for an extended period. When I feed him, it's wet food, so I think that's the majority of...

New cat wants to eat my food - after being fed!

Interesting, I'm giving him about half a can a day, which is what he got in shelter. I also leave out a bowl of kibble and he does eat it, but usually when I'm not around. He's an American Shorthair - do they keep growing after a year? I'll do some research, thanks for mentioning that!

New cat wants to eat my food - after being fed!

Thanks for the advice! I haven't been giving into the begging and I never give him any of my food. I'm trying to be consistent!
