I said goodbye to my sweet baby Elvis today. Her name started as a nickname due to her sideburns and she became that name.
She made it to 18 and was the greatest animal I’ve ever known. She had respiratory issues and I just couldn’t let her get to the point of suffering worse than she already...
I tried samples of the kidney foods and she wouldn’t eat them. Her kidney disease is still in the lower stages so that’s good.
I also read about them eating too much fish and that’s all she’d eat of the weruva. I’ll take a look at that list.
She was on Fancy Feast her whole life until 2 years ago when her kidney function started to decrease. So I put her on Weruva then all of a sudden she refused to eat it. Been on Instinct ever since. I’d read that Fancy Feast was really bad food. The vet recommend kidney food but I researched and...
My 17 year old cat just recovered from severe pancreatitis for 2 weeks where she wouldn’t eat anything and I had to syringe feed her. During this time I kept a plate of Fancy Feast out for her at all times because she’s always loved it and after 2 weeks she finally at a whole plate of it. I was...
My cat is fighting off a severe case of pancreatitis. The vet gave her sub q fluids twice and she peed a lot for the next 24 hours. Like 6 times. So that curious that she isn’t going at all. I agree with above to check for pee on carpet or rugs. I can’t imagine all that fluid hasn’t come out...
My cat had this for years. It was irritable bowel syndrome. I don’t know if that’s what yours has but just my experience. I gave her better food and it went away. But you’re already feeding well so I don’t know.
Good luck!
Buts she’s 17 years old. Aren’t US like $500? I just feel like no matter what they find it won’t change treatment. We are treating pancreatitis but it’s not working. If it’s cancer we won’t treat it.
Trust me, I hate this. This cat is my world. This sucks.
I do wrap her in a towel because if not her paw gets up there. It’s just me as I live alone and I am giving puréed Instinct can food in the side of her mouth as the vet instructed. Her head is all over the place and most of it ends up on me.
I have a 10ml and 30ml syringe.
Syringe feeding my 17 year old cat Elvis (the girl) with pancreatitis is the most difficult and frustrating thing ever. Any advice? Tips?
She hasn’t eaten more than a few bites on her own in 2 weeks so I’m desperate. I try to get 40ml in her. But I’m failing. Some days it’s only 10. She tries...
Today I had the vet start Elvis on sub q fluids(just normal saline, I asked for lactated ringers). We’ll see what happens. She’s now 3 weeks into being sick and no improvement. Vet is at a loss and says the next step is an ultrasound. But I just am not sure I want to pay for that without knowing...
Thanks so much. I’m still struggling with her. She’s still barely eating. Called the vet today to ask if I can get subcutaneous fluids to give her at home. It’s been almost 3 weeks.
An update on Elvis. The vet says her pancreas enzymes are very elevated signaling pancreatitis. She’s getting more fluids, an antibiotics shot due to white count up, cerenia pills for nausea and pain meds.
I have to force her to eat even if it means syringe feeding.
If my kitty does have pancreatitis, is it ok to give her that GNC Ultra Mega high calorie booster gel that they sell at the pet store? It’s easy for me to put it in her mouth and I’ll take any calories over nothing at this point.
My cat peed more, I’m guessing due to more water being in the food, which is a good thing. She also pooped much smaller. The wet food doesn’t have all that filler garbage in it.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow. Should’ve gone today. She’s peacefully sleeping away the pain meds so at least I know she’s currently comfortable. She wouldn’t eat even with the pain marks today but I think she was mad because I shoved a Pepcid AC down her...
