Is anyone’s cat stressed out during this lockdown due to Coronavirus?

Kiernan is a mercurial cat to begin with, and it's been in overdrive the past few weeks. She's been constantly going back and forth between being playful and goofy to hissy and growly. Part of it is that my kitten EJ is 10 months old, so their dynamic is changing as he's entering adulthood. But...

Looking for some advice about food please

You can definitely feed both wet and dry. Honestly, if a vet told me that I couldn't, I'd be getting a new vet because that's ridiculous. Have you tried a timed auto feeder? My cat, who I adopted at 2 years old, was at first very reluctant to eat wet food. But I had the same problem you did in...

Do you have a plan if you suddenly found yourself unable to care for your cat(s)?

I have a cousin who will take excellent care of them if something happens to me. I have Kiernan's extremely detailed care sheet printed and put in a plastic sleeve on my fridge. I also have a copy with my important documents and another in my emergency evacuation kit. I'm glad you made this...

    Cats watching TV....

I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I've watched Netflix on my tiny phone screen because my cat was watching her bird show on the tv screen.

    Black Cats Only

I can't believe I've never posted my fuzzy voids on this thread before! Kiernan looks absolutely innocent in this picture, but just today she looked me right in the eyes as she batted the sharpie cap I had dropped all the way under my futon. And EJ may be strutting like a boss in his picture...

    Cats watching TV....

EJ, after ignoring all videos for his first 2 months here, discovered the lizard last night. He's still in the stage where he kept looking behind the screen to find it. He was completely baffled, and I kinda wish he wasn't such a smart cat because I would be thrilled if he never figured it out.

    Cats with different 'speeds'

That's reassuring! Sometimes he's just so nonchalant when getting bopped repeatedly in the face, it's comical. Maybe she's not as stressed as I think she is.

    Cats with different 'speeds'

That might work! They definitely pick up on things quickly. (A little too quickly!) And I could use their own favorite perches to help reinforce the idea.

    Cats with different 'speeds'

I hadn't considered an extra treat, maybe I'll try a few pieces of kitten kibble in a treat ball set with a small hole. That may give us a few minutes. Thanks!

    Cats with different 'speeds'

I adopted 4 year old Kiernan 2 years ago. She's curious, playful, silly, HIGHLY mercurial, and finds people fascinating. Basically the type of cat who loves head rubs, but will signal she's done by nipping. She is very clear with her boundaries, and with her increasingly escalating warnings. She...

8 Month Old Cat Constantly Begs for food, even human food, devours food so quickly

I'm definitely watching this because I was about to post a similar question when I saw your thread. I have an 8 month old kitten named Ezra who I've had since mid December. He's always had a decent appetite, but for the last 4-5 days, his appetite has increased significantly and he's acting like...

Contest January 2020 Picture of the Month: Cats Helping / Supervising

Entry Every day Kiernan gets 8 grams of kibble in addition to her wet food. Once a month, I weigh the food and portion it into jars. This process is always overseen by the worlds strictest foreman.

Worried About Overfeeding, But Also About Underfeeding

I don't have much advice, but I can sympathize with your anxiety about both underfeeding and overfeeding. It's hard with cats because 'they'll eat the food I put out if they're truly hungry' isn't an approach that applies to all cats. My ~8.2 lb 3yo cat gets 6oz total of her wet food each day...

Anyone Else's Cat So Cute But Not Cuddly?

My Kiernan is similar. She's not a lap cat, but is definitely my little shadow. Closing a door behind her is not allowed! And her affection is very much on her own terms. She'll often move away if I sit next to her, but if I'm sitting down, she'll come and shove her head into my hand, chirruping...

    Cat Barely Eating

Thanks for that info. She was just given her single dose anti-nausea at the vet's so I'm not sure what she got. I'll call and ask, since I have a hunch that this won't be the last time she refuses to eat. Her appetite stimulant is Mirtazapine. She also had to take Mirtazapine when I got her...

    Cat Barely Eating

I forgot to update! Kiernan had an xray, and her blood and urine tested. Everything looked good. She does have 1 slightly enlarged kidney which is apparently not unheard of in some cats, and the vet thinks it's benign. Her weight is down more than expected, but she's still well within a normal...

    Cat Barely Eating

Thanks. I'll take her in now. She was playing a little more this afternoon, but still not eating. This is my first experience with a sick cat and it is so scary.
