Foster kittens with chronic soft stool

I had a kitten whose poop was soft and barely formed. It turned out that she had Giardia (and because she had a bad UTI, this was a very stubborn case of Giardi. I had to switch her antibiotics to a stronger one. And I had to put her on 3 rounds of Panacour before the Giardia finally went away...

    Tony's Story Giardia/Coccidia and Worms

Hello fellow cat lovers. So this is Tony's story. I am a little frustrated but hoping everything is OK. This is long... thank you to anyone that reads. So Tony was a stray he was coming around for a bit crying at my door before I caved and took him in. I have 4 cats with him and before he came...

Do kittens poop normally smell worse than adults?

It sure can. So long as amount, texture, color and frequency are normal, it's just Kitten Poop Stink. However, if the stools become very soft or runny, and happen frequently, or become very pale or very dark, you could be dealing with any one of a number of issues...worms, coccidia...

    Tony's Story Giardia/Coccidia and Worms

Thank you for your experience. Yes I have him on a probiotic. I did try pumpkin and might try this again that seemed to work it just scares me to use again because the last time I did is when I saw worms. His poop is smelly. Even when it's more soft serve than diarrhea so yes that concerns me...

My kitten is so tiny and bloated!

Sometimes, kittens and cats can have protozoan infections, and these are not cleared with most of the usual dewormers that are used for "worms". The most common protozoan infections in the US, and in Texas where I am, are Coccidia, Giardia and Tritrichomonas foetis. Giardia is sometimes treated...

My kitten is so tiny and bloated!

Thank you for the informations. I think I need to have second opinion from another vet, just in case if they find something because the recent vet never mention any of this.

Anyone Seen Poop Like This Before?

I give his sister pumpkin nearly every day, since she's had some constipation in the past. Ares will sometimes eat it too, but like I said, he's been picky about food recently. The poop smells more than usual, but it's not awful. I thought of giardia and coccidia, especially since they went to...

Our sweet sick boy came from an odd shelter

Hello @lucifur_ and family, and welcome to TCS! Poor little man! and poor you! Thank you for being committed to loving and caring for him. This is what a google search came up with re: the ammonia smell: "Why does my cat's poop smell like ammonia? Parasites as a cause of smelly stool in...

Blood in poop after new kitten?

Blood and mucous in the stool indicates that there is still a parasite at work, or worms but most likely parasites like giardia or coccidia.  Bring a stool sample to the vet.

Cleopatra - Bloody stools and elevated calcium

Thanks for the info guys! She has pooped twice since my last post. No blood whatsoever in either of them! The first still had the same mucus, but the next one did not seem to have a lot at all. The smell was still there. Tomorrow I will still call the vet though. I am making sure she is getting...

    long term soft stool

Sorry for the delay in replying! The sneezing and the poop are not related, but the sneezing could be a URI. Is he loosing weight? Worms would often show up in stool but not always so i would always deworm if an indoor/outdoor cat started getting soft stool.

    long term soft stool

It appears it was tested just for giardia and i guess, scoped for ova and parasites. He was not dewormed, wouldn't something show up in his poop if he did have worms? I buy a 13-16lb bag of food and often 2 at the same time, so it's not like he's getting a different food every week or even...

Cleopatra - Bloody stools and elevated calcium

Okay in my experience, which is extensive as I have had a cat rescue group for many years, this is what I see. I think she likely has coccidia, poop is mucousy and foul smelling diarrhea and/or soft stools. It is also the most common of the parasites. The blood seen does not help indicate...

    Soft kitty poop

Hi! In house (vet) testing of stool is not nearly as reliable as outside PCR testing at a lab.  I would send the sample out and probably discuss with the vet treating her in advance of a positive result for either coccidia or giardia, which are common kitten parasites.  She also needs to go...

    long term soft stool

He does go outside and could possibly have contact with other cats, if the other cats approached him (he's not one to go after other cats). He also has 3 other cats in his own house that do not have any of the symptoms after all this time, so I'm guessing it's not something contagious. He eats...

Health Issues with New Cat - worried :(

Just wondering. Would you like your food and water sitting in the bathroom next to the toilet while someone uses it? You cannot do this with a cats food and water, either move the food and water to the other side of the room or out of the room entirely. The injection would have taken...

    Archie's poo (nice title, huh?)

Yeah for fostering those beautiful cats! I am guessing that Archie is in no way related to the others and did not get surrendered from the same home. It very well could be that he has a bit of IBD or food intolerance ( most likely a grain). \\ How long was he at the shelter before you...

    Archie's poo (nice title, huh?)

Yes - he came from that same uncooperative shelter. The poop is a medium brown, somewhat lighter than the more formed stools of the other fosters. No blood that I can see. Nothing tarry. My first thought was that the food wasn't agreeing with him, but if that is the case, I would have to...
