Does Anyone Have Any Idea What's Wrong With My Cat's Eye?

Hello,

Yesterday morning my cat's eye was normal - then yesterday after work I came home and it looked like my cat's eye had rolled right back inside her head - it was completely reddish-white, and all around the eye was ready puffy and swollen. (It might have been her third eyelid; that's just what it looked it.) My vet was closed yesterday so I couldn't call. This morning I woke up, and her eye looks completely normal. I called the vet to ask if they know what that was, or what I should do in that situation, and they were zero help. They had no idea, and had no suggestions. Does anyone have any idea what that was? If it was an eye infection, how could it have come on so quickly, and also disappeared so fast? Is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again, or what should I do next time it happens? Thanks.

The first thing I thought was that your cat had an eye infection and a membrane and/or the third eyelid had covered the eye. But then again I thought it was imposible that the next day everything was fine

Was it looking like the kitten in this post of mine?

Yes, it looked something like that, although the picture looks more red, and my cat's eye was more white. I have come home from work, and again the eye has swelled up and is almost shut completely now, although I don't see the white anymore. Now it's just swollen and red.

It could be an allergy or a reaction to dust of some sort, since it comes and goes. Are you using anything new, any air fresheners, etc.?

Nothing new, although I really have no way of knowing. I've only had this cat 3 months.

The case of the kitten in my photo is due to a herpes virus that infected her eye.
As from Tuesday I started a new therapy based on acyclovir-like meds (both pills and ointment) and the membrane that appears pink in my photo, yesterday appeared white. So it sounds similar.

Before it's too late, see your vet and ask them if it can be a virus. In this case you'd need antiviral and antibiotics.
Please, be quick. The ophtalmologist who visited this kitten on Tuesday told me that the vet who treated her three weeks ago wasted time and gave her the wrong meds. With the right approach that eye would be fine now...

I have been to the vet about her eye infection before, and he said it was just a 'cat cold' (which the secretary told me WAS the herpes virus) and he said there was no point in giving her antibiotics because that just masks the symptoms, but doesn't cure the virus. He said she just has to fight it off on her own. He also said there was no actual cure for the herpes virus, so I don't really know what to think. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has any home remedies they recommend. Or maybe I should just find a new vet...

Of course an antibiotic can NOT cure a virus, as we use to say over here "your vet has discovered the warm water".
For a virus you need an antiviral, that is what I'm giving to my kitten and what the first vets should have given in the forst place. The ophtalmologist was very clear about it.
The antibiotics can cure the secondary infections due to the virus.

If this is a virus, there are no home remedies. The virus could stay dormant in the body for years and then wake up and cause damages.

This happened to my puppy when she was getting into something she wasn't supposed to and she ran real fast and actually face planted into something. She literally looked like she had a black eye. This could be something like that as the kitty is young? Have you tried icing it? The vet also gave an anti inflammatory that seemed to help and it was gone within two days. Hope for your kitties sake that is all it is!
