    Have you tried TEEF?

I totally get that. There was a study on increasing kidney cat water intake that found adding amino acids increases how much they drink. This has an amino acid in it so I'm thinking they'll like it.

    Have you tried TEEF?

TEEF is a probiotic added to water to promote good bacteria in the mouth and reduce the bad bacteria. They've had a dog product for a while and added a cat product this year. I think the science makes sense, but does it actually reduce dental disease? Has anyone tried the cat or dog product?

    Litter reviews

I'm really surprised to not see chicken starter / layer crumbles / corn-based chicken feed on this list. You buy it at a farm supply store. Most people recommend layer crumbles but my cats preferred the texture of the chicken starter (finer consistency). Pros: If you buy the big 40-60 lbs...

    catnip recommendations ?

I use cosmic catnip and it gets the job done. I second the yeow banana though. Also PetSmart has a $3 pickle that is equally well loved.

    Affordable (clay) litter?

I have always bought (clumping) clay litter at Pet Supplies Plus. You sign up for their emails and every now and again they do a weekend sale. It might be 15% off your purchase or $10 off of $50 or whatever. If they also have a sale on litter, you put the two together and you get something half...

Anyone make food for a LOT of kitties?

First, *hugs* for trying to manage such a large family. They are lucky to have you. Also, you have to be kind to yourself. You cannot micromanage every aspect of your cats' health. If you can only feed homecooked for some meals, that's ok. If you don't have the time or energy, that's ok too. You...

Oral Cancer / SCC after Dental Cleaning?

A friend of mine's cat was just diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma. This is about 2-3 months after a dental cleaning. As I was researching the disease, I've found a few more reports where someone's cat was diagnosed with mouth cancer shortly after getting their teeth cleaned. I know...

Here's some data on Vitamin K content

This is a post for science nerds researching vitamin K. TLDR; If you're feeding a diet that's 90%+ chicken, you're meeting your cat's vitamin K requirement. I've spent several hours researching vitamin K content in food. I know many folks feel it is unnecessary if fish is not a significant part...

    Homecooked, now high kidney values

Thank you! I saw that reply in another thread. Was hoping for first hand experiences. You are the best at spreading knowledge. Thanks!

    Homecooked, now high kidney values

Hi all, I've got a 21-year old cat that started on homecooked in the past 6 months. With her most recent bloodwork creatine and BUN were elevated. WBC normal. We did a uranalysis, and the UA found no protein in the urine but low urine specific gravity (1.016). Given her age, it seems kidney...

    Cooked chicken recipe

Thanks. I wanted something that met the established nutritional standards using cooked meat and a minimal number of supplements. Alnutrin, BalanceIt, TCFeline, etc are providing minerals as supplements. This recipe provides minerals purely from the meat. The recipes in the folder without...

    Cooked chicken recipe

That is how the software works. It doesn't have the same cooking options for each cut of meat. Organ meats are especially limited in cooking options. I did put them all in the pressure cooker together when I made it. I made a note that I don't feed it raw. I cook it. The recipe calculator...

    Cooked chicken recipe

Good advice. I've seen others here post about not including vitamin K supplements, and I know Dr. Pierson's recipe (which has essentially undergone a feeding trial via her own feeding and blood testing for decades) is low in vitamin K, so I'm not worried about it. But I do feed straight fish...

    After illness cat won’t eat

I wonder if the vet would consider mirtazipine as an appetite stimulant or cerenia as an anti-nausea med? Fancy feast "flaked tuna and shrimp" often works. Ham has been a big hit in my family, but is high in sodium and not balanced. But eating something is better than nothing. Stella and...

    Soft lumps on kitten breasts

Just wanted to share my experience. I got a female kitten just before the pandemic, and she couldn't get spayed for ages due to restrictions. She was very small and didn't start obvious heats until she was about 8-10 months old. Then they were rare, maybe once a month or once every two months...
