@1 bruce 1 I admit that out of every possible cause of bad breath, that’s the one I expected the least lmao! Since severe constipation can cause a person to smell like poop, it makes sense that a cat’s anal glands getting backed up can cause a similar issue. I actually hope this is the problem...
I will probably end up doing this, I know people doctors are the same way so I wouldn’t be surprised. The only reason I haven’t had her teeth cleaned is because I feel iffy about anesthesia for a procedure that the vets said she doesn’t need.
@catsknowme Thank you! I’m going to try the drops...
@catsknowme Oh, I’m a dumb dumb. She DOES have allergies and congestion. It crossed my mind because allergies/sinus issues make my breath worse, but I figured hers was too horrendous to be chalked up to that. Everything is hypoallergenic, she eats high quality wet food, alternate...
They both said the dental situation was too mild to need any serious intervention. I have a reptile with a protozoa problem right now but it’s not zoonotic, and Winona has had diarrhea maybe twice since I adopted her. Just scooped her litter box right now and all is fine. I know...
My cat has the worst breath I have ever smelled. I instinctively hold my breath when she yawns near me, even if she’s several feet away. Her breath literally stinks up the room after a while if she’s grooming herself and rolling around.
Sorry if this is gross, but...if anyone here has ever had...
@Furballsmom yep, I was almost irrationally scared of hepatic lipidosis when I started feeding her fewer calories so I’ve been monitoring her weight religiously. Just checked and she’s lost 1/5 lb in all the time I’ve had her. Progress, I guess.
She has a siamese-like build so the excess fat...
I don’t know if she stopped losing weight when she switched to wet food, I think she lost 1/8 lb on dry and the rest on wet. I’ll feed her one can of wet and around 60 calories of my lowest calorie dry a day and see how it goes! I can feed her half a can in the morning and the other half + the...
All of my wet food brands are at the 90-97 calorie range so I’ve been feeding around 200 calories a day (with added treats). I just calculated the calories in the dry food and it would’ve been 192-196 calories per day when I was still feeding dry, so she’s lost about 1/6 lb in almost 3 months by...
I only have 3 brands of dry food so that was based on what I have, 2 shot glasses per day of relatively low-calorie dry food. She doesn’t eat dry food anymore, though.
Should obesity be factored in? The shelter fed her kitten food in a cage she couldn’t stand up in so she’s very overweight. As...
The vet said she should weigh 8 lbs judging by her frame and should be fed 2 cans of wet food daily or about 2 shot glasses of dry food, plus some treats for both. This is factoring in her activity level.
So quantity-based estimates should be safe, regardless of specific brands’ feeding guidelines?
My cat suddenly started eating wet food. I’m happy about that.
However, I noticed that many brands have bizarre feeding guidelines. I’ve seen some that recommend feeding SIX 3 OZ CANS PER DAY for a 12 lb cat! I understand this might be based on calories or the assumption that the cat is large...
By the way, and this might just be me, but we had Catit flower fountains at my old job and I HATED cleaning them. We didn’t have a dishwasher on premises so it had to be done by hand. If you have a dishwasher it might be better.
I use Cat Mate even though it’s ugly. It’s about $30, works great and is easy to clean. The filters are more expensive than other brands, though. I didn’t realize because I bought it when the filters were on sale. I thought they were always that cheap. Nope!
IGRs are pretty harmless, or at least Precor is. I got the tiny bottle on Amazon that you mix yourself, I think it was $9. I won’t know if it worked well until a few weeks later but I still feel great about that sweet, sweet price.
By the way...the Capstar worked better than the Advantage ever...
