I was walking a couple miles before dawn so I would get to view the constellations and there was almost no one else out there usually but it got too cold for me, even with 3 layers on bottom and 4 layers on top so I switched to afternoon before people start getting off work and the cars get annoying. But I'm going to have to do something more to get off the 10lbs. I put on from Halloween to Christmas. I think I'll start lifting weights again and of course music always helps. Good Luck to everyone, it is difficult to get the extra weight off, especially when you get a little older!

I got to test my fitbit for real today. My kids and I took a 45 minute walk and went about 1.25 miles. We didn't rush and stopped to inspect a stream and some plants; but it was a nice walk. Then after we got home I spent 30 minutes going 3.25 miles on the elliptical. It felt good to get in a good workout.

The fitbit only recognized the walk as exercise though. It shows my heart rate and all for when I was on the elliptical; but it's not in the exercise log part. I need to explore the app more. I'm at 8,859 steps and still doing school work with my kids. If we keep this up; 10,000 will be easy. :walk:

Some exercises you will need to log manually.
There is a little "watch" icon in the upper right corner where you can do that with.
The screen will give you the option to "track" or "log".

The logging screen will allow you to search for an exercise and set the time you start and stop. It will use an average to calculate your calories burned. I do this for my pilates, yoga, and "5 a days"... there's really no exercise that is in the database for those, so I just log them as "aerobics".

The track feature is kinda cool, but you need to set it before you go out on the walk.

I'm doing the dolphin plank, although I didn't realize that's what it's called
That's impressive. It's more difficult than straight arm plank.

I did two 45 minute yoga sessions and an hour walk today. I tried to get a few little runs in my walk. First I power walked up hill for 20 minutes, then I alternately ran five minutes, walked five minutes along the straight part of the trail, then down hill (Too steep and rough to risk running) then a ten minute run and a ten minute walk back home.

Ah I found it now! Thanks! I really have been trying to learn this all on the fly haven't I? :paperbag: I was looking at the heart rates for yesterday. Apparently trying to get my kids to bed gets my heart rate up almost as high as it was during my workout.

The weather isn't cooperating for a walk today. Maybe I should have invested in rain gear for us all instead of snow gear!

I've been trying to make my walk a "power walk" by swinging my arms. I don't like to sweat much though, since I take my shower in the morning, before my walk.
I just walk up hill as fast as I can without passing out. It's very steep in places around here, I'm sure that counts as a power walk.

I can believe that!

I lightly sprained my left ankle on my last walk
Oh no! I broke my toe last winter and had to spend about a month doing lying down core work and stretching. I hope it's better soon.

Just 45 minutes yoga and a lot of running around doing errands for me today.

What kind of footwear do you guys wear when walking outside in winter? I've been just wearing my comfy Sketchers, but they're neither keeping my feet totally warm, or giving them much support. So think I need something better.

Sketchers as in sneakers?! You need some boots! I live right by Canada, so I know this for sure. Or walk inside like me...
No, they are actually a boot - Sketchers Boots. And they're great for short walks, but I need something a bit better for longer walks. And, yes, inside walks work too, but my house isn't that big, so it gets boring fast.
