I have to say, I never even heard about cats being declawed until I moved to Texas.
It's been happening all over the world for a long time, unfortunately, but more and more nations and communities are growing some compassion and outlawing it. Out here in la-la land, we have a lot of spoiled, consumerist people that care more about inanimate objects (i.e., furniture) than they do about living beings. Those people should never have cats in their "care" because they DON'T care.tarasgirl06 I have to say, I never even heard about cats being declawed until I moved to Texas.
I guess there is a kitten inside of every cat! He just needed a chance to be that kitten. I have been amazed myself. He was such a tough guy before. Now he is all marshmallow! I love the looks he gives. He makes me feel that he is finally able to enjoy life. I’m so glad I kept on until I got to BJ! Quite a reward!Catching up...and still just overcome with how BJ has gone from SO ferocious to just plain cute, with a little silly thrown in!

Oh boy! You both touched on a topic that makes me frantic. I confronted our vet about it. Yes, they were doing it. For about a year I battled them about it. I kept using them partly so I could fight that very thing! They tell me that they no longer do that. I hope that is true. I kept asking about it in a waiting room full of patients and , diplomatically, talking about how I understood they objected to maiming cats by people who did not understand how awful declawing is and I hoped that educating clients would keep them from asking for that service. As everyone here knows, I spend a lot of time at the vet office. That gave me many of chances to voice this. I hope they really have stopped that. I have no way to confirm but at least they know the facts. I still bring it up in the waiting room. Lol Every vet visit is an opportunity. Today I found a woman who is considering doing fostering but worried about rules from her landlord. I suggested that , if she can’t foster, volunteer! I gave her the names of places that need her. I also told her about this site. Last week I met a lady needing help with kittens. It would be great to pair them up with each other if the landlord allows it!It's been happening all over the world for a long time, unfortunately, but more and more nations and communities are growing some compassion and outlawing it. LOL. Must have been quite "entertaining".Callie yowled all the way to the vet and eventually Mackie sympathized so they harmonized until the tech entered the exam room. Quite a duet!
I think I've mentioned that Ruby hates being restrained in any way, so it also takes some muscle to hold her during vet visits. Again, I wonder about her history. Then, again, I wonder if maybe it's best I don't know.Note the vets’ hands! It takes some muscle to hold this guy still.
Poor Ruby! It’s probably better if we don’t know all they experienced. Unless the info is needed to socialize or vet ,I think it might not serve much purpose. It might just makes us feel bad when , really, our kitties are now content to be safe and loved. Giving her care and love is enough and you already do that. It’s okay if she hates going to the vet. I don’t like going to the doctor either!LOL. Must have been quite "entertaining".

Glad 2 more of the Chez Catbird cats got good vet reports. How many more to go?

Speaking of today.........
Mackie and Callie were the patients today. Mackie is my tallest kitty and all muscle! Callie is not much smaller weight wise but she is a soft, round sweetie. Callie yowled all the way to the vet and eventually Mackie sympathized so they harmonized until the tech entered the exam room. Quite a duet!
Mackie is always moving and he didn’t stop during the vet visit. Note the vets’ hands! It takes some muscle to hold this guy still.

Mackie wasn’t mad. He just wanted to explore. Once I did the shoulder scratching he hunched his back up and quit trying to jump down. Photos had to stop though. It took both of us for this one. My super smart Mackie was very interested in everything.

The only time he was sulking is when we put him back in the carrier! Rats! No more exploring or meeting new people.

Oh,what a difference between cats. No strain to hold Callie!

I guess Smokey warned her to close her eyes.

That didn’t help her at the back end exam.

I think she was a little disgusted by the whole event.

Enough already!

Lots of petting followed! She did relax and even purred for the vet. He said ,” her motor runs great!”

Poor Callie. Mackie just saw this as an adventure but Callie was indignant. She and Mackie both checked out okay. Mackie is my Felv cat and has lost some weight but he is strong and all his vitals were fine. He has a little tartar on his teeth but the vet does not want to put him under anesthesia unless absolutely necessary. He feels it could cause serious complications. I did expect this. Considering how old Mackie is, he is doing very well. He is alert, active and happy. Callie was well behaved and very sweet. Pretty girl was admired by all and her bunny soft fur got lots of snuggling. Great report cards for both kitties. Neither kitty even flinched at the shots.
Another visit past us and relief for my mind! All is well at Chez Catbird!
We are all settling down for the night. I still owe a bit more petting. The kitties that stayed home want some too!
Have a great night everyone! Callie, Mackie and the rest of the Clowder send love and purrs.
No worries. Glad their appts are staggered, and that you get a break soon.I have someone due each month until August. I’d have to go to my files to tell you exactly who is due and when. Lol I get a nice break soon though. Yay!
Oh yes, when we take our crew to the vet, we are serenaded by a six-part chorus of kitty meowing, informing us of just how unhappy they are with the situation.
You all have me cracking up! Here’s a return giggle for you. The vet tech this last time looked up the kitties on the computer and exclaimed, “ Oh! You’ve earned a credit. Frequent flyer miles!” I burst into laughter. Good one! We really had earned a credit there too! They were doing some construction in the building and there was a huge noise when I was checking out. It startled me so the young lady told me about the new kennels and cages being added. My reply.....? Good! Finally finishing up my room! I got a little chuckle from her.I'm pretty sure my entire ancestry is described, in no uncertain terms, as we're traveling to the vet
Mackie says ,” Thank you! I work out!”Thanks so much!
Mackie looks the picture of strength, health, and handsomeness -- I would never know he's FeLV+. So glad he and Callie got good reports!
I think Alley and Precious are next. Yikes! Big boy and scaredy cat. That should be an adventure! Alley is the least socialized kitty! She bonded with Callie and it’s been a challenge to get her to pull away from being dependent on that relationship. Lately there have been huge improvements though. She’s decided I may be part cat too.No worries. Glad their appts are staggered, and that you get a break soon.
Maybe they are speculating that we were sitting in the church scratching ourselves when our parents got married.I'm pretty sure my entire ancestry is described, in no uncertain terms, as we're traveling to the vet
That’s a good deal! I get a discount card. Each time we visit they check off a box on the card. When all the boxes are checked we get 100 credit. Pretty smart on their part. It means I have to go back again to get the discount. Of course they know I will!Actually, for their annual checkups, we do take all 6. The vet charges the regular rate for the first one, but then discounts $30 from each of the others. Call it a bulk rate.
