Thinking of all our members who may be impacted by Florence. Please do whatever you need to do in order to be out of harms way. Having lived in Florida for a few years, and subsequently dealt with Sandy in NJ, it can sneak up on your faster than you think it will.

They downgraded her to a Cat 3. . .for now. She's big! And slow. It's the slow ones that do the most damage, because they just sit there in one spot instead of blowing over quickly. It looks like the very outermost winds are probably just starting to hit the coast. They have the potentially affected area marked as far inland as Kentucky. Yikes!

I am so glad Mamany1953 and her cat are hopefully OK.

On a related note, my shelter was scheduled to take 50+ kittens to NY where they have a kitten shortage. But they were scheduled to leave today and obviously could not. I just became aware of this latest planned transport. So we have an additional 50 more kittens than we planned and are being asked to take in more from the storm areas. Of course we will take in as many as we possibly can.

I am afraid that some cats might be euthanized. If you are in the Atlanta area and could take in even 1 or 2 for a few days, please contact Furkids.org. We are in desperate need of fosters. You do not need a huge place. If you cannot foster, any donation will help with extra expenses for food, medical care, etc. I am sure other rescue groups all over GA could also use fosters and donations. If you do not want to donate to a rescue, please donate to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, or similar groups if you are able.

And of course, I am praying for the safety of all the people who are being displaced. People are streaming into the Atlanta are already.

Could you try posting to one of the FB groups I listed above?
There are specific posts on those pages to request foster homes. There are also places for rescues to post needs for evacuations.
The Hurricane Florence Small Animal Rescue group seems well-organized.
The Southeast USA Animal Rescue has a lot of members and may have resources available.
I hope this might help your kitties

Where my cats are
I just got word that all of my family has been able to or is evacuating. Even my cousin's husband was able to follow along behind. He was sweet and took the time to pack sentimental things like pictures and things. Another cousin of mine has taken her friend in along with her friend's 2 cats. My cousin's cat isn't pleased.

I was just checking some OBX webcams. Some spots are getting some rough looking waters. The surf can be rough so far from these storms. Thankfully I didn't spot anyone trying to surf!
