No going outside for Zoe this morning before work. She was in the kitchen and wouldn't go anywhere near the front door. No way is she getting her precious fur wet. Taz on the other hand ran around the house once. He got a little wet before looking up at me as if to say "get me the heck out of here". It is coming down hard with little breaks of light rain.

A photo of the building across the street from my work.

Oh, Shane Kent Shane Kent , that is a really wonderful ceramic! Is it Lenox? Very nice. I bought some things from a family across the road from us in the Mojave when they had a moving sale. This one is kind of reminiscent of yours, in a way:

Shane Kent Shane Kent - How nice to see cattails rather than phragmites out front!

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - I like the soft glaze colours on Shane's new kitties - it reminds me of the "Modernist" cats-on-chairs series that Lladro did in the late sixties or early seventies.

Just a beautiful day here, with not-quite another quarter inch of rainfall overnight. Even in the full-sunlight areas, the lawn has rebounded from parched straw and monoazo to something approaching "kinda greenish" one more. The next few days hold the promise of cooler weather (mid-seventies daytime; sixty-ish overnight), and the rain returns Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It appears that the northeast's long dry spell is over. :)

I hadn't seen those before, 1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine -- they are beautiful and yes, very reminiscent! lladro cats on chairs - Google Search
As for brown lawns, if they gave out PAWSitive awards for those I'm pretty sure we'd win. Looks like a loofah aifinkso!

Contravening all recent luck and logic, the Rain Færies came in the night, depositing 1.3 inches of liquid happiness across the landscape - the heaviest rainfall in many weeks. The forecast continues to show rain and thunderstorms for many days to come, and with a little luck - and the rôle of chlorophyll in photosynthesis - we might have a return to green from the current sun-baked landscape.

My brain always does a freeze whenever I see a æ, ø or å in something that is written in English. So this had me trying to compute for a little while. And I’m happy to hear you had rain. We need some too, Sweden and Norway have been on fire for a while now, and crops are failing. :ohwell: Hopefullt this weekend we’ll have some rain.

So, to my pawsitive, I am so lucky, to have the weirdest little kittens ever! Nala is currently keeping me busy. Today I went upstairs to do some more painting, and were gone for a few hours. Since I came back down, she has no chill. She’ll follow me around, and yell at me, If I try to pick up Sorry. She won’t shut up, unless I carry her around. It’s like I have a really small boss following me around, and I’m kind of loving it. :cloud9:

Alice catlady Alice catlady - Moo Shu Snowshoe can be this way as well sometimes. She'll begin screaming (imagine a dozen dæmons holding bullhorns, with their tails stuck in electric pencil sharpeners), and until she's picked up, and 'baby-carried' from window to window, nothing will shut her up. She's rather like having, "a really small boss," with a Napoleon Complex and sharp little teeth and claws.

Oh, Alice catlady Alice catlady , I've been reading about and hearing about the climatic conditions in Sweden right now. Praying for better soon! for you and for us. *btw, I love Swedish/co-production crime dramas. My favorite is Wallender, but I also love 100 Code, The Bridge/The Tunnel, etc.*
Don't you love talkative cats? My Tarifa has some Siamese genes, I'm sure, or maybe Burmese. Whichever, she is very talkative and has the "meezer" voice.

1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine -- she sounds more charming with every account of her personality. *Napoleon, btw, is said to have been an ailurophobe.*

Hahaha, dæmons. :D And that sounds a lot like Nala. Are you sure Moo Shu doesn’t have family in Norway? Because this little lady has such a strong will. We are having a bit of a battle these days, her wanting to go out and me not wanting her to go outside. So now she is running around yelling at me anytime I catch her in the act of trying to sneak out. It’s like she is screaming NOOOOOOOOO. And then she’ll go around talking for a while, until she starts screaming and I have to pick her up and carry her around like a baby for 30 mins. Then we start all over again. :runaround:The only time I get some peace is the 60 minutes after we have gone for a walk around the house with her harness. And yes, walking around the house one time can take an hour or more. My hubby said two weeks ago that Nala was going to be boss of the house, and it’s starting to look that way.

Yes, it’s been real bad in Sweden. I’m in Norway, we have the same thing happening, but Sweden seems to be worse off. We are having the hottest summer since 1947. The crops are failing, and farmers have to send animals to slaughter because they don’t have enough food. Others are cutting crops early to help with food for the animals. And people with private water supply are running out of water. On top of that, lightning has been starting fires. In Sweden they had forrest fires the size of 11500 footballfields, with firefighters from other countries going there to help out. Even with that, it seems some of the fires might not stop before winter. And the weird thing is this winter we had more snow than we’ve had in 30-40 years. So we’ve had two rough seasons. So I’m really hoping all of us get some much needed rain soon.

And yes, I also love Wallander. :) I also love the Millenium series. Swedish crimen is really good.

And Yes, it’s good to have a little talker. :) The cat we had to put to sleep two years ago was such a talker. We would always hear him before we could see him, and he would just walk around, talking. He always had something to tell us. Nala seems to be following in his footsteps.

Can pawsitive be something cool? :) Because I think you guys might like this.

One of our old, norse gods (Frøya) was said to have cats who pulled her chariot. And in one of the Vikingships they found, a wagon was part of the grave goods a lady was burried with. I’ve seen both the ship and the wagon many times, but today I saw a close up of the wagon. I can’t believe I missed all these little cats. I just think it’s really cool to see that even the Vikings liked cats. Seeing that they were the ones to bring them here in the first place. :)

How nightmarish! I know that type of weather well, from having lived in the Mojave where we would get lightning strikes and very strong monsoon thunderstorms. A few days after moving in, lightning struck a joshua tree (and a real estate sign!) on the undeveloped property next to our land. We had no windows on that side of the house and if the man across the road hadn't seen it and called the fire department to come out from the nearest town, who knows what would have happened. We had a couple of times when forest fires came very close to us, and I called to see if there were mandatory evacuations and was told there weren't.
The most heartbreaking part of the fires in Sweden, to me, is the animals. They don't have good lives anyway, but for them to have to end their lives sooner because there is no food for them is truly very sad. These climatic conditions are happening all over the world and yet those in power simply do not care at all. I read that it has been 95F in SIBERIA! recently.
To make this PAWSitive, we are so blessed to be surviving and able to live well with our beloved feline family members. I pray for all.

Oh wow, that sounds really scary! The lightningstorms and the dry earth is such a scary combination. We live by the forrest, so we’ve been lucky to not have any fires here.

I agree, it’s sad. A lot of Norwegian farmers still send their animals out in the forrest and fields in the summer. When I walk in the forrest close to our house, I’m usually really scared, because I’ll bump into a large group of social cows. But not this year. It’s not enough food for them in the forrest. So the ones who do live trough this also miss out on months of freedom. And that’s sad. And the animals who do live in the forrest are comming down from the forrest to eat in gardens and fields.

Yeah, I find it really strange that people (in power and others) don’t seem to see what’s happening. We’ve had 6 months of extreme weather. And we are also in the 95F range. Scandinavia and Siberia aren’t supposed to be that warm. And I’m guessing we’ll see more of this in years to come.

This weekend we’re supposed to have rain and thunder, so fingers crossed it’s a lot of rain.

The positive in all this, is to see people stepping up. The other day french firefighters came to Sweden to help. Joining firefighters from other European countries. We have farmers helping each other out. My dad is a farmer, without animals, and he has been working day and night to cut crops that can be used to feed animals. Farmers in the north are sending crops to the south, people are doing fundraisers and calling to ask how they can help. The red cross is getting a lot of new voluenteers. And so far, nobody has died and the firefighters in both Sweden and Norway are working really hard, and they have been able to save peoples houses.

May your dad be blessed for his good work and caring!

Yes, though no place is perfect, I read of more cooperation among Europeans than among USA people, which I think is at least partially due to the countries being so close, and having the union, and having gone through so many historic events. This is much more like my Indigenous (tribal) ancestors who had the same dynamics and whose values were all about survival of the tribe, not of the individual only. This is the most PAWSitive way to live, I believe!

I read about the permafrost melting in areas where it has never done so, and organisms being released from it that are dangerous to life. I think those in power, who have so much money and so many resources, believe they will either survive in their own controlled atmospheres, or travel to Mars or some other place, avoiding the disasters. It is very disturbing.

But to the PAWSitive, very bright and caring people are working on ways of feeding us without continuing factory farming. This has the potential to be very hopeful. Time will tell. *Those Vikings had the right idea!* Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures with us. A dear friend and fellow animal activist is of Norwegian descent. She gave me a lot of pictures of a cruise she took to Norway -- such a beautiful land! and pictures of the old Viking stave church, and Grieg's home. Very lovely!

Alice catlady Alice catlady Thank you for the pictures of the wagon from the Viking ship! Amazing! I have always been interested in ancient artifacts and this is a favorite with me! I was aware of the link with kitties but to see this is an opportunity that does not come too often.
I love kitties that carry on a conversation with us. It’s nice they want to engage us in their lives. Even if it is to dominate the situation. At least they view us as useful! I have a large furry black cat. He towers over most of my kitties but somehow he knows he is the youngest and has decided that since he is the baby of the family, he should be treated as such. Anytime I bend down near him, faster than a bullet, he shoots both front paws around my neck and holds on. He insists on being picked up and held, first on my shoulder, then cradled in my arms. He even enjoys being rocked like a baby. Oh boy, what a spoiled kitty. Even if I don’t want to pick him up, once his paws are around my neck, he hooks his claws into my clothing and i have to extricate myself. Every claw loosened means he tightens down another! Bonjure keeps me laughing! My bouncing baby boy! He speaks to me as well but in a voice that doesn’t seem to fit his size. He has a soft meow but uses it every time he wants to be held. They keep us busy but in a most positive way!

Here is Bonjure practicing his grip on a giant roll of paper towels! He thinks he is just a little fellow! ( May rain come that way swiftly)

Jcatbird Jcatbird -- he is so handsome! And as for people trying to say love is selfish in any way, it CAN be construed that way. Why do we feel so good when we "fall in love"? Because it is a good feeling for us! Unless a person is mentally ill, (s)he prefers to feel good rather than bad...and to seek what makes us feel good. When we are cared about, it is the best feeling! We are mammals and mammals are hard-wired to do this.

I just knew he was hiding a mouse in there!
LOL
So, my positive is that the chores are FINALLY done - I had a very stubborn carpet stain from a hairball this AM. It took one fairly lengthy handcleaning and three "goes" with the steamcleaner, plus a touchup. Good thing I have that steamcleaner!!

He was so sweet, he tried so hard to get me out of bed at about 4:30 this morning to tell me about it, but of course Bumbling Human had no clue at that point. Then, about an hour later prior to breakfast, I noticed he was rather subdued and gentle, rather than using his usual I'm-yelling-at-the-top-of-my-voice.

Mama FINALLY saw the problem, got it started with some Natures miracle (wasn't much impressed this time!), fed him, and went outside to get the hummy feeder to clean. He actually sat in the open deck doorway that whole time waiting for the go-ahead, bless his little heart because he still was a bit unsure about things. Got it and I loved on him as well, and thereafter all was fine again in his world. He even came over later on to "help" with the carpet LOL :cloud9:

Thank you! :)

Yes, I think the Union is a big part of it. But I also agree that history has a lot to do with it. We’ve had a long time to figure out that sometimes we have to work together. I also think it’s part of the wisdom after WW2, the closer our ties, the less likely we will go to war again. But we are somewhat spilt in two, with east and west.

I think we up here in the north have been privileged for a long time, so I hope the weather this year can be a wakeup call, but also an eyeopner for what other parts of the world is dealing with. And that we give power to people who are thinking about the future. Not the people who are only in it for their own sake.

Thank you! Norway was a poor country for a long time, spending a lot of time being under Denmark and then Sweden. So we don’t have the big castles and beautiful bulidings you’ll find other places in Europe. But we do have the nature, and I do love the stave churches. It’s so amazing to see them, because it’s easy to see that they were built in a time when the people were not sure about this new religion they had to follow. So it’s a Christian churche, but with little details, like Odin’s head on the wall. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Me too, ancient anything! :D The viking ship museum is really amazing. I’m always in awe, at the size of the ships. The grave (Oseberg) was for a woman, and I’m guessing she was important, since she got such a big ship. And I love that they gave her a wagon with cats on it. :) The Vikings seems to have been cat people, even taking cats with them on their ships, going into the world.

Hahaha, awwww, what a beautiful cat! And such funny stories, I’m still laughing at the idea of him running to be picked up. My old man Pan is also a big, black boy, who doesn’t seem to understand his own size. But If we try to lift him, there will be blood. Our blood. I love a talking cat, and how different their voices and talking is. Pan, the 8 kg lump of cat, has the voice of a little mouse. But Medusa, our petite female, will howl so the neighbours can hear her, If her bowl goes empty. :D Cats are such personalities.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - I long suspected this to be the case, given his penchant for having been portrayed with his hand tucked inside his waistcoat; I just knew he was hiding a mouse in there!

Alice catlady Alice catlady - I'll trade you a wonderful Snowshoe Cat for that wagon!
.
Hahahaha, sure, I’m sure Pan will agree that what we need is cat number 6!

So, the positive, we’ve just been out on «walk the kittens around the house», for the fifth time today. Nala has been crying, then licking my leg, then biting it, to tell me we need to go out again. We’ve gotten to the point where getting her harness on is easy, because she knows what’s comming. And she starts purring the moment it is on. Tonight was the first time they’ve been out at night, and they both went more than a little crazy. Climbing trees is their new thing. And Sorry really sucks at getting down, so I end up having to get her down. :agree: But the best part of tonight was Pan. He is the oldest of our cats, and the one I was most worried about when I got the kittens. He really is a sweet old man, but he can get protective. So I’ve had some nightmares about him getting angry with the kittens, seeing that he is more than 4 times their size. But tonight he was outside, and the kittens got really close to him. He’s not really been allowing that earlier. He’s been walking away If they get too close. But tonight they were jumping around, playing, climbing a tree, about 60 cm from where he was chilling. And he didn’t mind at all. He was just there, watching them. No hissing or anything. And no walking away. He looked like he was a bit fascinated, If anything. And that makes me really happy, because I want all my cats to be Ok, and it seems like my old man is starting to be Ok with the kittens being here. :cloud9:

Alice catlady Alice catlady - You're very fortunate to have seen them; I've seen only the museum (i.e. the Gol Stave Church, moved to its new site, since I've been only to Oslo in Norway) - but while Norway might not have "beautiful" castles and buildings, you have (along with the British Isles) the earliest permanent settlements of Humankind, crowned by the longhouse, signifying the moment in the Neolithic Period when cats first convinced Humans to contrive permanent structures, so the cats could domesticate them.

Alice catlady Alice catlady -- 8 kg. is a fairly sizeable cat! Our beloved King Nicolas I weighed 22 lbs. in his prime, which works out to a bit more than 8 kg. But our beloved Sammi angel was an 8 kg. Maine Coon mancat, and quite hefty indeed.
It was all I could do to pick either of them up! not because of their weight, but because, as with your Pan, there was resistance involved. :nono:

Yes, the Viking buildings and ships are so beautiful! As for the religious aspect, my European ancestors came from Ireland, and they basically did similar things in terms of trying to hold on to their older beliefs, because they were forced into Christianity, of course, by people who called them "pagans" and thought they had a better way, when the Irish had had a very high culture for a very long time , :sigh: but the invaders wanted the land, so, as with every other place where this occurred, they got the Bible and the invaders got the land.
