Exactly! I feel like I have to be on constant guard! A couple of our regular cashiers have asked to hold him and use hand sanitizer first. I can deal with that. But random strange person? Just no.

Not wanting people to touch your cat and dog, understandable. But not seeing them as companion animals and instead seeing them like children, that's a little troubling.

Far too many people think very similar, that their "fur babies" are equal to human children in all ways and that other people should treat their "fur babies" the same as if they were human children. People bring their "fur babies" everywhere that a human child could go, and screw the people with severe allergies to cat or dog dander or people with animal phobias. Who cares if the animal acts like an animal and makes a mess (not just doodoo but also damaging stuff or knocking stuff over or stealing food), or feels threatened and growls/hisses and snaps teeth/shows claws; well it's the problem of the business or other people because they should treat "fur babies" as humans. Who cares about animal discipline because they love their "fur babies" so much that they don't want to be mean to them by enforcing standards of behavior.

People can definitely love their animals with their whole hearts. But they have to remember that this is a companion animal, not a child, and that there's places animals shouldn't go for the sake of other humans, behaviors that can be expected from an animal mind that can't rationalize like a human, and discipline standards and methods of teaching to keep an animal from acting like an undomesticated wolf/cougar.

My cats are my babies, but if, God forbid, the house was on fire or something, and I only had time to save one other than me, I'd grab Aedan. Of course, I would do my best to save them all, but Aedan would be first.

I guess I fall between the cracks on the "cat as child" thing. Hekitty is my baby, my little girl, but I don't take her everywhere. THAT said, when people come to my house, they'd better respect our relationship. When a neighbor said she couldn't come in because of cat hair, I informed her that it was Hekitty's house, I would be happy to put a towel down or we could visit on the porch. Hekitty is allowed anywhere in my house she can safely go, and on anything she can safely reach and get down from. Those who don't like that can shut up or go elsewhere. And my sons are FINALLY accustomed to being referred to as her big brothers. LOL, the younger is really NOT a cat person, but accords her total respect, and I can live with that.

And don't even get me started on the inspection (I live in rental assisted housing with quarterly inspections) when my landlady said, "There's an awful lot of cat hair on that cat tree!"

For some reason, people seem to think animals and babies are public domain. That's why I like doing our grocery shopping in the middle of the night. During the day, people come up and try to touch Aedan and coo over him. I get it. He's adorable. But I don't know where your hands have been so back off! At 2 am, the store is empty! That's gonna be one down side to John getting moved to days if it ever happens. No more 2 am grocery shopping.
That's crazy! People have lifted Daisy off the ground to pet her without asking me. When I asked that they put her down, they refuse. Can you imagine?

This lady at the dog park wouldn't put her down. I told her to leave Daisy alone and her response was, "No, it's okay. She's fine. Don't worry." When she wouldn't listen, my mom pitched in and she still refused.

We ended up leaving obviously. Just because she is small, people think it's okay to just lift her up. She doesn't like it. It makes her uncomfortable. Children seem to want to pick her up too. I've had to stop them so many times or tell them no.

I just don't understand it. And sometimes they act as if the dog isn't attached to a person. Because of this, she isn't allowed to be around children under 12 years old. They are not gentle with her and it's forced her to start biting people just so that they'll leave her alone.

I would have greater respect for a person if they greet me first and then ask if they can approach my dog. I bought a muzzle for my old dog just so that people would leave us alone when we walked together. He would never bite but it kept people away from us.

Marcy went to her new home day. My friend's son has her scared to death. He was sick this morning so he didn't get his ADHD meds and he was loud and bouncing off the walls. He's much calmer on his meds. I hope everything goes well; I don't Marcy constantly scared and stressed out. I told my friend to bring her back if it doesn't work out for some reason. Her son is definitely a wild one, but he didn't try to hurt her - he was just very hyper. And she's a young cat and likes to play so it should all work out once she's gotten used to him.

I took the cats out on a leash today (checking proper harness fit is a :censored: when your cat's bones have turned to goo). I just realized there's an outdoor danger to the cats that I've never thought of before. The grass in front of my unit is about half grass/half clover and apparently both the local bumble bees and the local honey bees think my bit of yard is great.

Some cats turn to goo when put on a halter or harness because they have a hereditary condition called "freeze and fall" which makes them topple over, mostly unable to move, much like a fainting goat. They can't help it. That's what you see in the supposedly funny videos. The same happens when you put clothes on them or swaddle them. Not all cats experience this, though. And some eventually adapt to their harnesses.

Montressor will go to the door now and meow to be let out. I put a harness on him though, and he crawls on his belly. Today was putting it on him without the leash to walk around the house, and I wanted to verify the fit.

The bad news is he was so fearful with it on that he and Midway got into it (prey action/prey drive). The good news is that once we managed to move past the squabble Montressor seems to be adapting to the harness. I figure I'll keep it on them both for the rest of the day and put it on tomorrow as well.
