Sorry for not being in touch for a while. Grandma passed last night. The center was polite, caring, and understanding. The funeral company (when they finally arrived, although I understand taking a while when you get a call at four-thirty in the morning) was polite, caring, and understanding.

Pardon me while I rant. Grandma's husband and his daughter were not. After talking about mundane, practical matters they began planning to sell the heirloom furniture that, according to Grandma's will (and in the will is explicitly stated as) belonging to AWM. AWM said she didn't want to sell and, despite this, were talking about getting an appraiser to take a look at the furniture and get a price for sale. They didn't drop the subject until I said I was interested in the furniture. (Apparently while it's okay to screw over AWM, it's not okay to do so to me. Or, I didn't manage to keep my voice calm and they heard how close I was getting to homicidal rage. Hard to tell.)

So AWM and I have been informing family and friends about the passing this morning.

I am so very sorry, Darlin. My heart goes out to you and to your family. We just had a death in my family, as well. The funeral for my granddaughter's mama was this afternoon.

It's a modern piece. You can't see it in the pictures I took, but that black line that delineates the edge of the sun is a perfect circle. It has an illusion of not being so from line width irregularity, but the inner edge was clearly traced around a perfect circle. And there's no punch mark from a protractor. On top of that, the lines running down from the sun are different widths when compared against each other, but each line's borders are also traced, this time against a straight edge, and the distance apart between the borders of each line does not change from top to bottom. Plus (while this is more circumstantial) the hieroglyphics that are supposed to be the same have a lot of variation.

I know that ancient craftsmen were so practiced that their stuff is incredible, but I think a perfect circle to trace around might have been a bit beyond their capabilities. And I'm pretty sure that someone who was both literate and an artist would have very little variation, like how little variation there would be when handwriting the word "cat" twice on the same sheet of paper.

I am so sort for your loss. You loved your grandma very much. She knew it. That is important, she knew it while she was alive.

I've always been interested in Egyptology. I remember seeing this once before. You know how you forget most things, but some stick in your head? I remembered it was a pharaoh, and that it started with 'Akh..."
I admit, I had to look it up to get the full name, however.

I've had this dream since Saturday night that Sable (my other foster) is alone and scared outside. It's driving me crazy. I keep checking the shelter website and I've called them twice, but she hasn't been turned in over there. I feel so helpless as I don't know where she is to go look around.
I'm hoping it's just paranoia and the dream doesn't mean anything. But, I can't shake the feeling of stress/helplessness/worry.

Oh, my. I hadn't even heard that she was lost.

That does make you feel helpless, stressed, and worried; I don't think there's any way around it. I hope you find her soon.

I don't know that she is lost. I don't own her, and she is microchipped. And that's why this is so frustrating. I just spent two hours on a facebook page for lost pets on the mountain. Didn't see her.
But the dream has been persistent and the feeling of urgency has gotten worse.

I raised her, but I wasn't able to adopt her (she already had someone waiting). I only got Onsa and Samai.

On the topic of professional framers-- I recently had an original piece (by my favorite artist!!!!) framed at a local, mom & pop framing shop. While talking to the lady who works there, I learned that a customer just a few weeks ago had come into her store, quite angry at Michael's (local, big box craft store, for those who don't have them) framing department.

Apparently, she had brought in an authenticated paper (maybe an inventory list, or a receipt; something like that) signed by French general Napoleon Bonaparte...and Micahel's had thrown away the authenticity papers.

I'd be angry, too! That's an unforgivable sin for a framer, just discarding the customer's artwork. Even more so when it's something that valuable.

Holy cow! Where my husband works does custom framing for pictures. There was an abandoned piece, someone got it framed two years ago and never came back. It was decided to free up space and throw the framed picture out. My husband threw it out all right - right into the trunk of his car. I can't believe the quality of this picture. I think the paper is real papyrus paper.

I have seen this and similar items in several people's houses. There seems to have been a run on these a while back. It may or may not be real papyrus but don't think that you have something ancient, these are reproductions from not more than 10 years ago.

This is a rather common depiction, you can see it in almost any book that shows the ancient Egyptians.

I've now got a list of shows to check out. Some people said which channel shows them, most I will have to hunt down. I don't have the Science Channel, rats! Or the Netflix Channel although I do have Netflix where I get movies from every week. I have seen Deadliest Catch, I can do without that, Tree House Masters, Tanked and Inside Pools get boring real fast just like the other Real Estate shows, I've watched Forensic Files a few times but I'd rather watch Bones, more entertaining. So I'll see what I can find, thanks to everybody who gave some heads up.

Guys, this is a very sad day. I found out a few hours ago that my granddaughter's mama committed suicide last night. It was very unexpected. She had been "a little quieter" than usual, but no one suspected a deep depression. My son and granddaughter are just broken about this. Zac and Melissa broke up years ago, but were excellent co-parents of Erin, and had maintained a close friendship for her sake. Melissa remarried a couple of years ago, and I know her husband is all to pieces. Good thoughts for them, please.

Yeah, I kind of figured that was part of their excuse. But they're still changing history, and they never address the fact that now all of history is changed and not just that one person's history. Or maybe they do in later seasons, I'll pay attention for that.

I don't mind a lot of fiction in science fiction but I do want a little self-awareness!

When we were vacationing in Florida I had the hotel TV on COZI and watched Quantum Leap, The A-Team (OK, that one is both more boring AND more insane than I remembered), and Knight Rider (meh) every night. That's what gave me the idea to buy the DVDs .

One problem is that the DVDs aren't captioned and I hate watching TV without captions :/.

Oh my, since I live by myself with no children or grandchildren up close and don't watch a lot of TV besides CNN and MSNBC I have no idea what most of you are talking about. I don't want to watch zombies, vampires or shows about people who have more money than god, sounds like Dynasty from way back and all the other shows that spawned. I watched Dr Who way back but got bored with that, same old same old. I've got cable and a lot of what I call "in between channels" like 2.2 or 4.3 etc (I think they are called HD channels) but none of the premium channels like HBO. I watch PBS sometimes and NatGeo, like to watch the Weather Channel's shows, I find the History Channel to be a lot of stupid crap and not History at all. I guess I like to be educated instead of being "entertained". I also binge on BBC America for the Star Trek shows but then get tired of that also, I see that they will show the original on Friday, that should be fun to see all the out-of-date gadgetry which is now real.
Is there anything that I should try out that is not TOO dumb but intelligent even if it is NOT educational?

If you can find it, Eleventh Hour was a good one. I also like Forged by Fire, The Finder, and (if you don't mind watching anime) Castlevania. (Season one of that last one is only four episodes long, but they are good!) I occasionally like to watch Murder, She Wrote, but if I watch it too long I get the burning desire to smack Miss Fletcher upside the head for stupidity.

My extended family members fought over my Nana's possessions before and after she had passed. I have to wonder if people need something tangible to focus on while grieving. Doesn't make it any better or any more right...and another added stress that nobody really needs.

So sorry for your loss.

First of all, . That can't have been easy. AWM and her siblings fought like cats and dogs their entire childhoods along with their stepbrother and all four of them (plus us cousins) are pulling together. It only seems to be her husband's family that appears to be circling like vultures.

Death brings out the worse in people. When my gramps passed away-his daughter-my aunt-already stole all the silver and antiques he had in the house. My dad was beyond P off. On top of my gramps suicide because she was a meddling B. He took things into his own hands and ended his life. Bad enough but hey what can I say? He wasn't going into a nursing home. And decided it was time...wish he picked another less messy way to do it-my mom n I understood.

As I get older and hear Jon talk about his future-he too says the same. He says no way will he go into a nursing home. At least his Daughter is a registered nurse so we would figure something out when the time comes=/.

Let's hope its another 10 years away=hard to believe he just turned 69. Oh still fighting to get him into the doctors for his full body aches and arthritis. He's living on advil and glucosomine right now-and I nag him daily. Doesn't seem to matter. I think he's having circulation issues but his blood pressure is right where it needs to be-his feet get cold and wears slippers..I busted out the heating pad and he said no. STUBBORN MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think being stubborn can be a good thing. Oh, that was horrible of her!

Who is the executor? Is there a legal remedy, such as a cease and desist letter?

We don't know who the executor is yet. Grandma once said that it was going to be AWM, but that was before she remarried. She might have changed it to her husband; we won't know until the will is read.

If it's in the will they have no legal standing to sell the heirloom furniture. That's kind of the whole point of wills. You may want to see if you can find a Legal Aid attorney. And do whatever you can to get the will sent to probate as quickly as possible. Did your grandmother name an executor? I hope it's not her husband.

AWM is afraid that, after Grandma began her cycle of hospital and rehab, her husband took a loan against the furniture. (We know that Grandma wouldn't have done so.) If he did, is there anything we can do?

Ouch! That's awful! I had the same thing happen to an ancient Spanish coin (salvaged from a shipwreck) that my great-aunt gave me when I was a kid. I saved up my allowance for months because I wanted a special box to display both the coin and the authentication papers. When I had it done they just threw the coin in a coin protector and the papers in the garbage. (They got angry that I wouldn't pay the full amount we agreed on, but they didn't do the work they agreed to do. AWM sorted them out--they got their protector back and I paid nothing--but I still haven't been able to find someone to replace those papers either.)

When she began her cycle of hospital/rehab I made her a yarn doll in her favorite color. (Grandma was like me; when she felt bad she had to have her favorite color around her--it's just a little thing to help feel better.) When she moved, it vanished, so I made her another one. And another one. (You get the idea.) When I explained to the funeral director who showed up take her what it was he tucked it between her hands after getting her on the gurney to go to the funeral home, which I thought was sweet of him.

I missed last night's lodge meeting-totally forgot-got to put up posters for September's meeting.

our business agent quit. This person is in Mass and has to drive an hour or more to come up here when there are conflicts-which is often. The prior chief and him got into an argument and almost a fist fight. What is it with MEN??! They always holler and yell. You know us ladies would have done it differently. But now the international will have to figure it out-the business agent said he wants us to split off into our own local which I think is a good idea. The other companies in our local don't really have anything to do with us-so why don't we have our own local??!

So maybe it will be a good thing to get a new business agent. The last one wasn't always honest with us if you know what I mean. They wouldn't fight for us and seemed on the company side rather than the contract wording. I am at the point where if neither party will abide by contract then get rid of it. Both sides try to cherry pick what they want and not follow the rules. Then fighting starts. Really hard to stay neutral. Especially when the company bigwigs make plans and do things that makes our work harder.

Like outside vendors screwing up parts=instead of reject work-they tell us to fix it...and you know it's very frustrating to have to work to a standard but the company accepts lesser standards than we are held to. Makes life very frustrating.

And of course on vacation found out VC Summer job got canned. They already shipped out the internals we were working on-Tomorrow is the last day for 11 of our guys-3 of which got saved because the senior 3 people will take early retirement. At least those people will get severance pay. So my standing outside on the front lawn for 2 weeks wasn't in vain.

Stupid me for forgetting it, Forged in Fire is awesome! And come to think of it, it's on History channel. BattleBots is also awesome, geeks' version of ancient Roman gladiator battles. The carnage is awesome! But I don't remember if that is on Discovery or Science channel.
