Smokey will be 9 years old in a few days. I've noticed that her whiskers and face are looking almost white and her once dark grey fur is turning a light chestnut brown. I've also noticed that she's been shedding a lot more than usual and is leaving more hair balls all over the place. As her grey fur falls out, it is being replaced with light brown fur. She's also lost a lot of weight in her face and her body has slimmed down substantially. Other than the physical changes, she is still the same cat personality wise. Lots of energy, eating great, good stool, etc. Should I be concerned about this? I know she is getting older so I expect to be seeing the vet more often. My family and I have been saving for it and we are prepared. I just want to know if these are normal signs of aging or something else.

My 16 year old cat, black/white is now trip colored black/brown/white. Probably old age because a friend of mine'so cat has gone totally black to totally brown from old age. Anemia can cause fur color to change but your cat seems healthy. If she has lost a lot of weight and stops eating see the vet

Thank you! She seems to eat more now actually. Even chasing Felix out of his bowl to eat his meat. But she's been doing this for years. I guess it's just hard for me to accept that she's not so young anymore. But I plan on doing some blood work and other things soon. She needs a checkup.

Yes, I think she does need a checkup. Not because of her fur is changing color, but because you said she is eating more, but losing weight. :sigh: That doesn't sound right, so I think bloodwork is in order just to make sure everything is okay.

Thank you. I will as soon as I can find a new vet for her. Feeling uncomfortable with my current one.
