Hi People :)

So, while house hunting a few weeks ago, I noticed 3 out of the 5 houses we visited each had a different kind of catbox and different kind of litter.
1. Normal litter - Luuup (Luuup - The Litter Box Reinvented)
2. Breeze litter system - Breeze® Litter System | Tidy Cats®
3. Scoopfree - 'automatic' cat box ScoopFree® by PetSafe

I have three cats of my own, and ... I'm sick to death of scooping. I tried Arm & Hammer Slide a few weeks ago and it works great, but it's expensive! And I feel wasteful about dumping ALL the litter out.

What do you guys use for litter? Litterbox? Suggestions?

I used to have one like the Luuup about 10 years ago and I hated it only because the litter always stuck to it. So I bet using it with A&H Slide would be awesome!

I currently use storage totes with a hole cut out with Amazon Basics litter.

Whaaaa?! I've seen that storage tote hack on Pinterest. Is it easy to clean?

Its similar to a normal cat box BUT I don't have peeing outside the box and a lot less thrown litter due to the high sides.

I will say that if you have one that has the indented bottom like so many seem to, and you keep the litter shallow, it can be annoying to clean with a scooper between the sides and the ridge it creates. But with litter deeper (3 -4 inches) and routine cleaning I rarely have that issue come up.

Where do you think?
I've had the same litterbox for at least 20 years it's just a basic speckled Grey box with a hood. I have two of these.

I use bags so the box stays clean.

We mainly use storage bins because Tommy likes to spray in the litter box. Anything shallower and he'd spray the wall. I haven't seen him able to spray the boxes now that he has had PU surgery and he's actually been covering his waste which is something I'd never seen him do.
My ex had a breeze system he said he really liked. I read reviews on the LUUUP just here on the forums and it seems like for every 10 people, only 2 like it. Two complaints are the size and that litter sticks.

I buy mine at Target, use it for 3 months, then throw away and buy another. I use Dr. Elsey's cat litter and genie wipes found in pets-very helpful. Also a hard plastic scoop so it won't have to be replaced

I hate scooping, so I've been using the omega paw rolling box for about a year. It works beautifully as long as you keep the litter deep enough, use a good clumping litter, and roll slowly. Plus, my cat likes to dig to China, and the enclosed box keeps all the litter contained. About the only downside is that the clips keeping the top on are weak, so I duct tape the seam to make sure there's a good seal. Just make sure to get the large size. Regular size is only good for kittens.

My kitty use to try to dig to china aswell and would scratch the bottom trying to get a deep enough hole to do her buissiness.
The tray was just not deep or big enough for her and she's only small 3kg (6.6 lbs). Litter is over 10cm (4") deep now.
With deep enough litter nothing ever sticks to the bottom and it's less than a min to do either tray and actualy use less litter than before.
To fill the tray from emptly is about 12kg (26lbs) of litter which may seem like a lot but it's made my life easy.
I usualy scoop twice a day and I have two litter trays.

Regarding the OP: Yes I agree scooping was a pain when it all sticks to bottom and I would have to take the trays outside and clean them with a high pressure washer ocasionaly.

This is what I have:
Cost about US$10 here where I am and is made in Belgium and not china to my supprise.

I have not put the lid on yet and will try it when she gets more use to it.

Main tray is in an open area in the living room and a night light up on the wall as when the window shutters are down the room is pitch black (cats cannot see in total darkness).

Just my two cents.

Cheers,
Greg.

I had one of those and I loved it, but my tortie didn't and abandoned the box! :( Made it super easy to clean though!

Litter box in the living room? Ewww

I keep mine in the utility closet next to the water heater and have a flap in the door. Most people don't know i have cats unless they see them.

I would like to try that but I do not use tops. Is there a high back one?
The omega paw works by rolling the box upside down, so the top is kind of necessary. There's a grate that separates out the clumps and deposits them in a tray. It may work to leave the top off and only snap it on when you want to roll and empty it of clumps, but the issue is that the clips are weak and will likely snap off with daily use. Not to mention that the seal isn't perfect, so some litter may come out through the seam when rolling.

It's unfortunate that such a good litter box has minor flaws that end up restricting its use.

Litter box in living room is a good idea. They like to go where there owners are. If you have a good litter where there is no smell it would work. My cats go mostly in the morning when I get up. 2 are in my bedroom, one in my bathroom. A small one in my living room by my dining room table which I do not use except to take my pills. That box is rarely used because I rarely am in my kitchen I scoop morning and night and use genie wipes. I have 4 cats. During the day they use the one in the bathroom.

I (and my cat) really like the litter breeze box, because it is low maintenance and is virtually odor and dust (important since my housemate has asthma) free. I'm using it with generic urine pads and the blue buffalo walnut pellets, instead of the breeze brand, which saves a lot of money.

if you don't mind scooping solids daily (i use a puppy poop bag to just grab it than throw it away, but the included scoop works well, too) and have 1-2 cats, it is a great system. If you have more than a couple of cats, it might not be as good a choice.

I haven't soaked and scrubbed out a litter box since January, after I started taping a puppy pee pad into the bottom last January. I used to take the boxes out to the back yard once a month and soak them for an hour, then use a scrub brush and let them dry in the sun.

The senior has a standard extra-large, high-backed box with no lid. He doesn't dig deep or throw litter. The kitten is using a large $5 dishpan from WalMart dropped down into a tall cardboard box with one side cut out for a door. She does dig to China and toss litter. She'll probably end up with the storage tote like mizzely's photo above.

Both boxes get sifted at least once a day through a wire mesh basket with a handle from Dollar Tree. No scoop.

My boy's litter box is an extra large one with low walls and no lid and it's placed between the living room and the kitchen. He too is a digger and the litter is filled to 4ins deep and minimum it goes to 3ins. He has extra big mats to catch the litter

A night light is on throughout the night.

His box is scooped and cleaned and wiped whenever there's two clumps of litter (maximum3 clumps) and the clumps are not small as he is fed wet food with extra water to keep him hydrated. Also clumps will be cleared if I'm going out and also before bed time so that he always have a clean and clear box. Scoops are wiped and sprayed with Isopropyl Alcohol after scooping poo :cool2:

His litter box is changed every two month and scrubbed. He has two of it so I just rotate the boxes when one is being washed.

He has four scoops :p, big scoop for big chunks and small scoop for small pieces of soaked pee litter that falls through the big scoop (four scoops is for rotation), two scrapers, a 3.3lbs ice cream container with a plastic bag to dump the used litter in and they are kept in a container near the litter box. And a chair to sit while scooping. It's tiring squatting down while scooping :dizzy:

We are loving the Breeze system. We have 2 cats so I think we are going to have to change the pads every 2-3 days. No smell, no tracking.
