  1. Coffee, tuna sandwich, egg salad sandwich, berry muffin at Cumberland Farms for breakfast. Pizza slices not ready - would have preferred that. They have hardly any vegetarian offerings.
  2. Stop & Shop for cat food. Annoying because each can has to be individually scanned. Guy behind me was getting antsy I could tell.
  3. Cleaned two storms & washed all the master bedroom knick knacks. Entire room will be spring cleaned tomorrow.

My SIL and BIL are coming in this afternoon. My BIL made some sourdough bread and he's not real happy with the texture, so he's bring some down for me to taste. I think that he and I are going to be getting together soon to make bread; I don't know if he's not kneading enough or if he's kneading too much, but something isn't quite right. For one thing, he's using his KA mixer to knead and I'm a firm believer in kneading dough by hand. You just get a better feel for the dough when you knead by hand. That's just me. But he's never kneaded by hand, so I don't know if that's part of the problem or what's going on. When Sarah (granddaughter) and I bake together, we also make yeast dough by hand; we never use a mixer.
  • Breakfast for the kids, running the dishwasher now, scooped the boxes, made the bed. Rick said he'd vacuum the kitchen and living room when he got up from his nap this morning.
  • Errands this morning: banking, Lowes, our local chocolate store for chocolate-covered pretzels (sending to a woman who was kind enough to send me some of her oranges and lemons from her trees in CA)
  • I'm making Hot Cross Buns this afternoon and we'll take some to Rick's mom tonight.
And I think that will be it.

not much going on here today! that's because i took care of everything that needed doing yesterday.
......and a lot of baking yesterday too.

so today i'll wash the last of the dishes from yesterday's baking (they're soaking in the sink), scoop the litter boxes, wrap and freeze two loaves of banana bread (baked yesterday), and i might make a batch of coconut pudding -- i have extra coconut milk, left from making the banana bread.

It's my mother's birthday so....

Went to a fancy bakery and bought her a bunch of different cake slices. She likes the variety and I bought her enough to last 3-4 days.
Taking her out for lunch
After that, I think Aaron and I will relax with the fruit tart slice I bought for us and watch a movie. It's been a loooong week.

Love the idea with the different cake slices....that's different and what a great idea.

My hot cross buns turned out beautifully yesterday. Everybody really like them. We have one left out of a dozen and Rick will have it with his iced coffee later on this morning. Got the house cleaned up yesterday, went out for dinner, and then took some buns and went into visit with Rick's mom. She said that, depending on how she feels, she'd like to come down for Easter dinner. She was coming back to her room from supper when we went in. We walked back to her room with her, she saw the hot cross buns in the container, sat down, opened the container, pulled a bun out, and started munching down. She's funny.

Going to be a bit busy today......
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, made the bed (Rick will scoop when he gets up from his nap)
  • Three loads of laundry; Rick put the first load in while I was emptying the dishwasher and I just put the second load in (I am not stripping the bed down as I just did it on Wednesday night. It can go until next Sunday now)
  • We need to clip the girls' claws this morning.
  • Going to walk around outside, pick up the walnuts and get them in a trash bag, pick up branches and put them in a pile in the garden, clean the yard to prepare for mowing. I think I'm going to mow today; the grass is getting long enough to be mowed. And while I'm doing that, Rick is going to turn over the compost piles. (I'm getting my "compost bowl" out of the basement today, too, and will start putting my produce peelings, egg shells, coffee grounds, etc in my bowl for the pile. I usually save everything for a week, then take the bowl up and dump it in the Mantis and then save again. We don't have the Mantis out yet, so I'll just dump it all into the regular compost pile until May. It's still pretty cool out, but it will still work; it will just take longer.) Rick will probably set fire to the branches in the garden.
  • Manicure tonight. I'm cutting my nails down a bit again. The one that I had broken is growing out nicely and I'd like them all to be the same length.
And that will be it. Rick starts OT again this coming week, although he's considering not going into work on Monday; it's to be a beautiful day and he said he'd rather be outside working in the yard tomorrow. I keep thinking that, one of these days, he's going to wake up and say, "The heck with this; I'm done!"
And I wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

Mondays......
I hate them, I tell you.
  • Breakfast for the kids, made the bed, scooped the boxes, 1 mile on the treadmill, grabbed my shower and, on my way into work, I put $20 worth of gas into Hannah (Rick took the day off; he's going to hit Lowes for softener salt, the riding tractor needs a new battery and he might burn the branches in the garden this afternoon.....we dragged branches up to the garden from around the yard yesterday. Couldn't get the tractor started, even with putting the charger on it, and so he push-mowed the front yard. No way would he even think about letting my push-mow because of my knee. I was going to take the day off, too, but I have a meeting tonight and would still have to come for the meeting; it's not worth it.)
  • Planning Commission meeting tonight. It's going to be a long one, too, I'm afraid. My part of the meeting will be long anyway. I doubt I'll get out much before 6:00 or so.
  • Groceries tonight. I have my list ready to go, except for what I need for my part of Easter dinner on Sunday....still have to add those items.
Til we get home from our shopping, have dinner and clean up from that, it will probably be too late to do much of anything else. Since we're now running the dishwasher earlier in the evening, we're trying to get into the habit of emptying it out before we go to bed, so we don't have to deal with it in the morning.

  1. 74 degrees outside. Tomorrow will be 79 degrees. Why the heck did I wear sweatpants for my constitutional today? Put them away as soon as I got home. I do have spring clothes I can wear right now, but next Monday I will get everything out & put winter clothes away. Yay. Wore sunscreen on my face for the first time this year. Will wear it for the next 6 months.
  2. Palm Sunday mass yesterday. 30 minutes longer than usual, but it started one hour earlier. Took my palm home.
  3. Think I will go to Good Friday Solemn Liturgy at 3 p.m. Will try to find out how long it lasts before I commit to going.

today was a lovely day here -- mid-70's (F), and mostly sunny. so while the cats enjoyed the windows open, i ran the oven cleaner (i prefer to do that on a day when i can have the windows open, as it smells unpleasant), did a load of laundry, portioned/labeled/froze a double batch of carob brownies (were baked yesterday), scooped the litter boxes, took out the trash, and washed the dishes.

Not to mention that oven cleaner makes everyone's eyes sting.

  1. 85 degrees yesterday. Everyone in town was delirious. 63 today. Easter Sunday supposed to be 80. Good stuff.
  2. Annual OB/GYN exam today. Uneventful. Mammogram in 2 weeks' time & then I'll be finished for the year.
  3. Went to Whole Foods to stock up on my chocolate bar supply. Also bought dried kiwi slices. Which are delish. :)

Rick's mom called me yesterday. The last time she was here for dinner was for my birthday and, at that time, she said she didn't think she'd be coming down anymore as it was getting to be too much. We said that we understood, but that she needed to know she was always welcome. Well, she asked if she could let us know Sunday morning if she was coming down and I said that was fine, that Rick would get her, if she wanted to come down. We'll see how things to. She wants to come....she really wants to come. Her legs have gotten that bad, though, that it's getting so hard for her to get around.

  • Breakfast for the kids, 2 miles on the treadmill, clean-up in the kitchen, made the bed, grabbed my shower
  • Need to run over to the store during lunch for powdered milk for the Chocolate Babka (I'm completely out. The recipe calls for 1-1/4 cups of water and 1/3 cup powdered milk and I'm considering just using 1-1/4 cups of milk. But I'm out of pecans, too.) Either way, a trip to the store is required.
  • While Rick is bowling tonight, I'm going to do a quick vacuum and then I'm off to bed.

We have off today for the Good Friday holiday. Rick took The Beast out for her first pee, scooped the boxes, and he's snoring away on the couch. The OT is really starting to drag him down. He has off today; when they mentioned the possibility of working on Saturday, it did not go over well and they changed their minds.
  • Breakfast for the kids, 2 miles on the treadmill, made the bed, and am running the dishwasher now
  • Clean our messy house sometime today, while Rick is out mowing the lawn
  • Work in the basement

today i'll freeze the banana walnut blondies (baked yesterday) and half of the chicken stock (also from yesterday), bake a double batch of cinnamon caramel blondies (most of which will also be frozen, tomorrow), deal with the second batch of slow cooker chicken stock (i'm just not getting what i'd consider good chicken stock, am needing to add some better than bouillon chicken base to it :dunno: i'm thinking it has to do with using the slow cooker, so will be trying making it stove top next time), move two pounds of ground beef to the fridge to thaw (for baked meatballs recipe on sunday), wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, take the trash out, and wash then sterilize some canning jars.

edited to add: here you go, Kat0121 Kat0121 -- Cinnamon Caramel Blondies

There's a link at the end of her post. Can you see it? Not being sarcastic ;). Making sure it's not a glitch.
